Machine Learning Operation Manager

Role Overview: QuillBot is seeking a hands-on Machine Learning Operation Manager to lead and scale the AI Engineering & MLOps function. This role involves a combination of deep technical execution (60%) and team collaboration (40%), making it ideal for individuals who excel in both individual contributions and strategic leadership. You will collaborate closely with Research, Platform, Infra, and Product teams to ensure the reliable deployment of models and drive innovation in AI at QuillBot. Key Responsibilities: - Own the full ML lifecycle, encompassing training infrastructure, experiment tracking, deployment, observability, and optimization. - Collaborate with researchers to streamline training, evaluation, and finetuning workflows. - Mentor a small team of engineers while actively contributing as an individual contributor. - Drive performance optimization, model packaging, runtime reliability, and cost efficiency. - Establish robust systems for CI/CD, versioning, rollback, A/B testing, monitoring, and alerting. - Ensure the scalability, security, and compliance of AI infrastructure across training and inference environments. - Engage with cloud and AI providers (e.g., AWS, GCP, OpenAI) to integrate tooling and optimize costs. - Contribute to architectural decisions, roadmap planning, and documentation of the AI engineering stack. - Advocate for automation, DevOps/MLOps best practices, and technical excellence throughout the ML lifecycle. Qualifications: - 5+ years of MLOps and ML/AI Engineering experience. - Profound understanding of ML/DL fundamentals and practical expertise in model deployment and training infrastructure. - Proficiency in cloud-native ML tooling (e.g., GCP, Vertex AI, Kubernetes). - Experience with both training-side infrastructure and inference-side systems. - Familiarity with model optimization techniques (e.g., quantization, distillation, FasterTransformer, TensorRT-LLM). - Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects independently with minimal oversight. - Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional teamwork and technical clarity. - Ownership mindset with the confidence to make decisions and guide others in ambiguous problem spaces.
