Sr.Engineer / Assistant Manager NPD Quality is responsible for ensuring the quality of new products developed in the foundry, overseeing product testing, validation, and continuous improvement processes. This role collaborates closely with engineering, design, and production teams to ensure new iron castings meet customer specifications, industry standards, and quality assurance guidelines. The role also involves identifying and mitigating potential quality risks during the product development lifecycle.Key Responsibilities:Product Development Support:Assist in developing quality assurance processes for new product introductions (NPD) in the foundry.Collaborate with the NPD team, including engineering, design, and production teams, to ensure the new iron casting products meet technical specifications and customer requirements.Participate in prototype evaluations and validate product designs by conducting necessary quality tests and assessments.Quality Planning and Control:Develop and implement quality control plans for new product development, ensuring consistency and compliance with quality standards.Define and implement key quality metrics to monitor product performance during development stages.Work with the NPD team to establish acceptance criteria for new products, including dimensional, mechanical, and surface quality.Product Testing and Inspection:Oversee the testing and inspection of newly developed iron castings to ensure compliance with customer specifications, regulatory standards, and internal quality benchmarks.Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for any product defects or deviations during the product development phase.Perform failure analysis and collaborate with design and production teams to modify product designs or manufacturing processes to address quality issues.Continuous Improvement:Actively participate in the continuous improvement initiatives for NPD processes to ensure high-quality product outcomes and reduced development timelines.Identify opportunities for process optimization in the development cycle, including casting methods, alloy composition, and finishing processes.Lead or participate in quality audits to assess the effectiveness of NPD quality procedures and identify areas for improvement.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to NPD quality activities, including test reports, inspection logs, and non-conformance records.Prepare and present regular quality status reports to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting potential risks, issues, and corrective actions taken.Ensure traceability and compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ASTM, or other relevant standards for castings).Collaboration and Communication:Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between design, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless communication during the NPD phase.Act as a point of contact for quality-related queries from the NPD team, customers, and vendors.Provide training and guidance to junior team members on quality control processes and best practices during the product development phase.Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.Experience:Minimum 8 -13 years of experience in quality assurance or NPD quality management in a foundry or metal casting environment.Familiarity with the casting process, especially for iron-based alloys and products.Hands-on experience with quality testing methods, failure analysis, and root cause analysis in casting production.Knowledge of industry standards (ASTM, ISO, or equivalent) and quality management systems.Experience working with CAD software and product design documentation is an advantage.Technical Skills:Proficiency in quality tools and techniques, including Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis, etc.Proficient in using quality management software And data analysis tools.Soft Skills:Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing quality issues.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical teams.Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. This role involves ensuring the availability of raw materials, tools, and equipment needed for production while managing costs and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.Key Responsibilities:Procurement & Purchase Management:Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with reliable vendors and suppliers for casting materials, Molds, chemicals, and other foundry-related materials.Material Procurement: Oversee the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials like iron, sand, binders, core-making materials, and other necessary items.Purchase Orders: Review and approve purchase requisitions, create purchase orders, negotiate pricing, and ensure compliance with company purchasing policies.Supplier Evaluation: Evaluate suppliers based on quality, delivery performance, and cost-effectiveness.
