Job Description: Production Engineer Manufacturing Plant Position Overview The Production Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising production processes to ensure efficient operations, cost-effectiveness, and high-quality output. This role bridges the gap between engineering design and manufacturing operations, ensuring machines, manpower, and materials are effectively utilized to meet production targets. Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Control Develop daily/weekly/monthly production schedules in coordination with the Production Manager. Monitor work orders, ensure material availability, and allocate resources to meet deadlines. Optimize workflow and reduce bottlenecks to maximize efficiency. Process Optimization Analyze current production processes and implement improvements to increase productivity and reduce costs. Ensure Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S practices are followed. Work on reducing cycle time, wastage, and rework. Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with quality standards (ISO, Six Sigma, etc.) and customer specifications. Collaborate with the Quality Control team to address defects and implement corrective actions. Train shop-floor workers in maintaining quality at each stage. Equipment & Maintenance Monitor machine performance and ensure preventive and predictive maintenance schedules are followed. Collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability. Health, Safety & Compliance Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with environmental and industrial regulations. Conduct risk assessments, safety drills, and hazard analyses for safe plant operations. Team Coordination Supervise operators, technicians, and production staff, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities. Provide technical guidance and hands-on support in troubleshooting. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance workforce skills. Reporting & Documentation Maintain production records, shift reports, and machine logs. Track KPIs like OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), rejection rates, and productivity indices. Submit reports to management on production performance, cost variance, and improvement opportunities. Key Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, plant operations, and industrial machinery. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics). Analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis (RCA) skills. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and TPM methodologies. Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities. Educational & Professional Requirements Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field). Minimum 5 years of experience in a production/plant engineering role (for mid-level position). Certifications in Lean/Six Sigma/TPM are preferred. Hands-on experience with automation, CNC machines, or process industries will be an advantage. Performance Indicators (KPIs) Achievement of production targets vs. plan. Reduction in downtime and machine breakdowns. Improvement in OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). Cost reduction per unit of production. Reduction in rejection/rework percentage.
