Department/Unit: Smelter Operations Reporting To: Head of Smelter Operations Direct Reports: Furnace Operator, Converter Operator, Anode Caster, Utility Operator (on shift) Job Purpose/Summary: To supervise and coordinate all operational activities during a designated shift in the Smelter unit, ensuring safe, efficient production of anode copper according to established targets and quality specifications. This role involves direct oversight of operators and the immediate response to operational issues. Key Responsibilities & Duties: Shift Supervision: Lead and supervise a team of operators and technicians during the shift to achieve production targets for the Smelter unit. Operational Monitoring: Continuously monitor smelting processes (furnace, converters, anode casting), process parameters, and equipment performance. Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve operational issues, deviations, or equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all shift activities strictly adhere to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Conduct regular safety checks and toolbox talks. Resource Management: Coordinate raw material feeding, slag tapping, matte tapping, and anode casting activities. Manage shift resources effectively. Quality Control: Ensure product quality parameters (e.g., anode copper purity, weight) are met and coordinate with the QC lab for sample analysis. Reporting: Prepare accurate shift production reports, log operational data, and communicate critical information to the Head of Smelter Operations and relieving shift. Team Leadership: Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to shift personnel. Foster teamwork and a proactive approach. Coordination: Liaise with the Maintenance team for equipment repairs and preventive maintenance activities planned during the shift. Shift Production Volume (Anode Copper Tons) Smelter Downtime (Shift-wise) Adherence to Process Parameters Anode Copper Quality (Purity, Weight Consistency) Shift Safety Incidents Raw Material Utilization Required Qualifications: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or Mechanical Required Experience: 5-8 years of experience in smelting operations, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or senior operator Experience with specific smelting technologies (e.g., ISA Smelt, Flash Smelting, Pierce-Smith Converters) is highly Required Skills: Strong understanding of smelting process metallurgy . Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, flowsheets, and operational Basic troubleshooting skills for process and Good leadership and communication Safety-conscious and adherence to operational Proficiency in using DCS/SCADA systems for process monitoring Locations - Ahmedabad,Bharuch,Surat,Pune
