The Physician Assistant (PA) position at UC San Diego involves following standardized advanced practice procedure guidelines to provide comprehensive care to patients. As a Senior Physician Assistant, you will utilize your professional expertise to assess and deliver medical care tailored to specific patient populations. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with off-site physicians within interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care. Under general supervision, you will perform operational duties in accordance with UCSD Performance Policy, focusing primarily on direct patient care delivery. Your role will involve managing patients with chronic and episodic health issues, and may also include participation in community teaching programs and patient education initiatives. Specifically, you will be required to assist in operating rooms for various surgical specialties such as urology, general surgery, and orthopedics. Postoperatively, you will assist surgeons with rounds, post-operative orders, care coordination, and patient discharge processes. To qualify for this position, you must be a graduate of an ARC-PA approved physician assistant program, hold a valid California Physician Assistant license, and possess current PA Certification from NCCPA. Additionally, you should have BLS and ACLS certifications at the time of hire, with a commitment to obtaining ART certification within six months of hire date. A minimum of two years of inpatient first assisting experience in perioperative or surgical services is also required. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be responsible for counseling patients and collaborating effectively with healthcare professionals. The ability to maintain detailed medical records, instruct medical personnel, and prepare clear medical reports is crucial for success in this role. Preferred qualifications include experience in urology, and the ability to work varied hours and locations based on business needs. Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain UCSD Medical Staff privileges.
