Job Description

An infirmary in-charge (or school nurse) in a school is a healthcare professional responsible for the health and well-being of students and staff. Their duties include providing first aid and immediate medical care for injuries and illnesses, maintaining student health records, and coordinating health initiatives like annual check-ups and health education programs. They also serve as a key contact for parents regarding student health concerns and may refer students to counselors for mental health issues. Key responsibilities

  • Medical care: Provide first aid for minor ailments, cuts, and other injuries. This also includes managing minor medical emergencies until professional help arrives, and escorting students to a hospital if the injury is grievous.
  • Health administration: Maintain comprehensive health records for all students, including submitting health history forms, and recording daily visits.

  • Health education: Educate students, staff, and parents on various health topics, such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Coordination and leadership: Work with other school staff, such as the Crisis Management Team and the Health and Safety Committee, to promote a healthy and safe school environment.
  • Health programs: Organize and assist with health-related activities like regular medical check-ups, first-aid workshops, and vaccination drives.
  • Mental health support: Identify potential mental health issues and refer students to the school counselor when necessary.
  • Inventory and management: Ensure the infirmary is well-stocked with necessary medical supplies like first-aid kits, oxygen cylinders, and nebulizers.

Qualifications
