GIS - Annotation Intern

As a GIS Annotation Intern at our company, you will play a crucial role in supporting our geospatial data labeling and annotation efforts. This position is perfect for students or recent graduates in Geography, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, or related fields who have a strong passion for spatial data and its significance in machine learning and decision-making processes. Your responsibilities will include annotating geospatial imagery such as satellite, aerial, and drone data using GIS tools while adhering to project guidelines. You will be tasked with digitizing polygons, points, and lines to identify and classify various features like roads, land use, vegetation, buildings, and more. Additionally, you will need to conduct quality checks, refine annotations based on feedback, and assist in the preparation and management of shapefiles, raster datasets, and metadata. Collaboration with GIS analysts, data scientists, and ML engineers will be essential to ensure annotation accuracy and consistency, along with documenting annotation procedures and workflows. To qualify for this role, you should be currently pursuing or have recently completed a degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, or a related field. Basic experience with GIS software such as QGIS, Google Earth Pro, or similar tools is required, along with an understanding of spatial data types and coordinate systems. Your high attention to detail, ability to follow annotation protocols accurately, and strong communication and teamwork skills will be key assets in this position. Candidates with additional skills in geospatial data formats (GeoTIFF, Shapefile, GeoJSON, etc.), exposure to Python or scripting tools for GIS (e.g., GDAL, rasterio, geopandas), or an interest/experience in geospatial AI/ML or data labeling platforms will be given bonus points.
