Key Responsibilities Your duties will typically blend traditional lab work with advanced computing tasks. 1. Physics & Experimental Responsibilities: Setting up and calibrating experimental apparatus (e.g., optical systems, sensors, vacuum chambers, electronic circuits). Operating scientific equipment like oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrometers, and lasers. Following strict experimental protocols and safety procedures. Soldering, wiring, and building basic mechanical components for experiments. Documenting experimental procedures and observations meticulously. 2. Computer Science & Data Responsibilities: Data Acquisition (DAQ): Writing software (e.g., in Python, LabVIEW, C++) to interface with sensors, cameras, and measurement devices to collect data automatically. Control Systems & Automation: Programming devices like Arduino, Raspberry control motors, shutters, temperature, and other experimental parameters Software & Tool Development: Building custom software tools, scripts, or graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to streamline lab workflows and data processing for the entire research team. Database Management: Storing, organizing, and managing large volumes of experimental data efficiently.
