Department/Unit: Smelter Operations Reporting To: Smelter Shift In-charge Direct Reports: None Job Purpose/Summary: To operate and monitor copper converters (e.g., Pierce-Smith, Teniente) to convert copper matte into blister copper, ensuring efficient blowing cycles, proper fluxing, and adherence to process parameters and safety standards. Key Responsibilities & Duties: Operation: Operate converter controls, including tilting, blowing air/oxygen, and charging fluxes, to achieve target blister copper composition. Monitoring: Continuously monitor converter temperature, pressure, gas analysis, and slag/blister metal levels. Charging & Tapping: Safely manage charging of matte and tapping of slag/blister copper according to schedule. Flux Management: Ensure correct type and quantity of fluxes are added during the converting cycle. Troubleshooting: Identify and respond to minor operational issues or process deviations within the converter. Report major issues promptly. Safety: Adhere strictly to all safety procedures related to working with high temperatures, molten metal, and gas hazards. Use appropriate PPE. Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized work area around the converters. Data Recording: Accurately record operational data, readings, and observations in logbooks or digital systems. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Blister Copper Production Rate (Shift-wise) Converting Cycle Time Adherence to Converter Process Parameters Blister Copper Quality Safety Incidents (Converter Area) Required Qualifications: ITI in Process Operation, Fitter, or Mechanical, or equivalent vocational training. Required Experience: 3-6 years of experience in converter operations within a heavy metallurgical plant, preferably copper smelting. Required Skills: Basic understanding of pyrometallurgical principles , specifically converting. Ability to read and interpret process parameters on control panels. Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems. High safety awareness , especially with molten metal and gas. Good observational and reporting skills. Locations - Ahmedabad,Bharuch,Surat,Pune
