Civil Site Supervisor

Role & responsibilities

Site Supervision

• Oversee daily civil works at the site, ensuring adherence to design and safety norms.
• Monitor and coordinate site activities related to foundations, RCC, steel structures, flooring, drainage, etc.
• Ensure timely execution as per project schedules.

Quality Assurance

• Check the quality of materials and workmanship as per specifications.
• Raise quality issues and corrective actions with contractors and site engineers.

Labour & Contractor Management

• Manage workforce and subcontractors on-site.
• Allocate work and ensure targets are met.
• Maintain discipline and safety among site workers.

Measurement & Documentation

• Record daily work progress, labour deployment, and material consumption.
• Prepare and maintain site diaries, checklists, and inspection records.
• Assist in bill checking and quantity surveying.

Safety Compliance

• Ensure all workers follow safety protocols and use PPE.
• Report unsafe acts or near misses immediately.

Coordination

• Liaise with project engineers, vendors, and consultants for smooth execution.
• Attend site meetings and update progress.

Key Skills Required

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of civil engineering basics (RCC, masonry, shuttering, concreting, etc.)
• Familiarity with industrial building codes and standards.
• Reading and interpreting civil drawings (layout, structural, architectural).

Tools & Software

• MS Excel for reporting.
• AutoCAD (viewing plans).
• Leveling instruments (Dumpy Level, Theodolite).

Soft Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Leadership and decision-making at site level.
• Time management and multitasking ability.

Regulatory/Compliance Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of labour laws and site safety regulations.
• Familiarity with statutory norms (Factory Act, Pollution Board norms, etc.)

Educational Qualification

• Diploma or ITI in Civil Engineering (minimum)
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is a plus but not mandatory for supervisor roles.

Desirable Certifications

• Safety Supervisor Certification (e.g., from NSDC or DISH).
• First Aid or Fire Safety Training.
