Accounts Manager UK Accounting Team

The successful candidate will support a portfolio of UK clients across bookkeeping, accounts preparation, VAT, payroll, Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) compliance.

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of accounting principles, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines. Candidates with previous experience working with UK accounting firms or UK clients will be particularly well suited to this role.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Bookkeeping

• Maintain accurate financial records and perform day-to-day bookkeeping.
• Process purchase invoices, sales invoices, and other financial transactions.
• Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end accounts.
• Maintain organised and up-to-date accounting records.

UK Tax and Compliance

• Prepare and assist with the submission of UK VAT returns.
• Prepare UK Corporation Tax computations and tax returns.
• Prepare UK Self Assessment tax returns for individuals, including self-employed individuals and property landlords.
• Prepare and submit monthly CIS returns.
• Support payroll processing and related compliance requirements.
• Assist with other UK tax and statutory compliance matters as required.

Client and Team Support

• Manage accounting-related emails and respond to routine client queries.
• Liaise with clients to obtain outstanding information and supporting documents.
• Assist senior accountants and client managers with day-to-day client matters.
• Monitor deadlines and follow up on outstanding tasks to ensure timely completion.
• Maintain clear documentation and communicate any issues or discrepancies promptly.

Accounting Software and Systems

• Work with cloud-based accounting software, including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and other relevant platforms.
• Use Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, data analysis, and financial reporting.
• Follow internal procedures and maintain high standards of accuracy and data confidentiality.

Required Skills and Experience

• A sound understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping.
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Good written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to organise workloads, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and apply UK accounting and tax procedures.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• B.Com, M.Com, MBA in Finance, ACCA, CA Inter, or an equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience working with UK accounting firms or UK-based clients.
• Knowledge of UK VAT, Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, CIS, and payroll.
• Experience preparing management accounts and year-end accounts.
• Familiarity with cloud accounting software and digital accounting workflows.
