Video Editor & Graphic Designer

We’re looking for an experienced Video Editor and Motion Designer to join our team. You are a creative, passionate storyteller, with an array of creative and technical skills to help us take our output to the next level. We are looking specifically for an individual with the skills, interest and sensitivity to produce mixed format videos in the style of Vox Media (https://www.vox.com/authors/sam-ellis). You should also feel just as comfortable crafting a poignant, story-driven documentary as you do creating a graphics-led educational series. You’ll apply your expertise to a variety of projects, through research/conceptualization, footage selection and treatment, graphic production and animation, quality control, data management/backups, and collaboration with the rest of our content team. The Video Editor/Motion Designer reports to the Producer.

Video Editing - 30%

• Work independently on a variety of live action formats including documentary, interview-based profiles, promotional content and informational/explainer videos
• Collaborate with Project Leads to enhance the quality of content by experimenting with new stylistic approaches
• Conduct visual research using stock footage libraries, historical archives and client provided media
• Organize and log media, create proxies and prepare files for colour grading and sound mixing

Motion Graphic Design - 30%

• In collaboration with the Graphic Designer or working independently, create standalone motion graphic media in a variety of styles
• Create pre-production materials like storyboards & styleframes
• Maintain an organized approach to asset and file management

Mixed Format Media - 40%

• In collaboration with the Sr Editor, Sr Animator and/or Graphic Designer or working independently, conceptualize mixed format videos in a variety of styles
• Leverage both live action editing and motion graphic skills to produce mixed format media

What You Bring to the Table:

• Degree or diploma in media production, digital media, video editing, motion design or similar
• 5+ years of professional experience in video editing and motion design
• Strong video editing skills with specific experience in:
• Documentary
• Educational content
• Promotional content
• Mixed media formats (e.g. sourcing and integrating stock/archival footage/images)
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software and experience using the programs in conjunction.
• At minimum, a deep understanding of Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Essential Graphics workflow
• Interest and experience in informational motion graphics (e.g. data visualization, instructional design)
• A keen sense of timing and pacing
• An organized approach to project file management
• Strong data management skills
• An intuitive, organized editor and motion designer with a keen instinct for visual storytelling
• Able to combine your strong technical knowledge of live-action editing and motion graphics to deliver high quality mixed media
• A creative thinker and problem solver who can find creative solutions during the post-production process
• A goal-oriented team player and self-starter who can work independently in order to meet milestones and deadlines

Bonus if you…

• Have experience with colour grading (and understanding of DaVinci Resolve)
• Have experience with sound design (and Adobe Audition)
• Have experience working in an agency setting
• Have illustration and/or graphic design skills
• Have experience with a variety of animation software/techniques
