The Veterinary Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of animals by performing various laboratory tests to support veterinarians and other veterinary staff. This position involves handling biological specimens, operating diagnostic equipment, and ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results. The technician is also responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness and organization, and adhering to safety and quality control standards. Key Responsibilities: Sample Collection & Preparation: Collect, label, and process various biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces, tissue) from animals for diagnostic testing. Prepare specimens for analysis by centrifuging, staining, or otherwise treating samples. Laboratory Testing & Analysis: Perform diagnostic tests such as blood counts, urinalysis, parasite checks, cytology, and other routine lab tests. Operate laboratory equipment such as microscopes, haematology analyzers, centrifuges, and spectrophotometers. Assist veterinarians in interpreting test results by providing clear and accurate data. Record-Keeping & Reporting: Accurately document all test results and laboratory procedures. Maintain detailed laboratory logs and patient records in compliance with clinic protocols and regulatory requirements. Report abnormal or critical results to the supervising veterinarian promptly. Quality Control & Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine quality control checks on laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning and calibration. Clean and sterilize laboratory instruments and work areas according to standard procedures. Troubleshoot and resolve basic equipment malfunctions.
