The Role We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to contribute to the design, development and operation of Venx’s core backend services. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building and running production systems. You will work within a small, focused engineering organization responsible for the platform’s core capabilities. What You’ll Do • Design and implement backend services using Python and FastAPI • Build and operate RESTful APIs supporting automation and system integrations • Design and maintain PostgreSQL-based data models for operational workloads • Integrate external platforms and services through secure APIs • Deploy and operate containerized services in cloud-native environments • Ensure systems meet requirements for security, scalability, and fault tolerance • Write clean, testable, and maintainable production code • Support services throughout their lifecycle, including monitoring and incident response • Contribute to technical discussions and architectural decision-making What We Look For • Significant professional experience as a backend software engineer • Strong proficiency in Python, including modern async patterns • Hands-on experience with FastAPI or comparable modern frameworks • Experience designing and operating distributed systems • Strong understanding of SQL and relational data modeling • Experience with containerized deployments (Docker) • Comfort working in production environments with real users and data • Clear written communication skills suitable for remote collaboration Additional Experience (Helpful, Not Required) • Experience integrating AI or LLM-based services • Familiarity with automation or orchestration tools • Experience integrating third-party APIs (communications, messaging, etc.) • Exposure to systems handling sensitive or business-critical data Engagement Model • Remote role • Full-time independent contractor engagement • Long-term opportunity based on performance • Potential pathway to permanent employment based on performance and organizational needs Why Join Venx • Work on production-grade systems, not prototypes • Contribute to a platform designed for long-term scale and reliability • Operate in a focused engineering environment with clear technical direction • Opportunity to participate in long-term value creation through performance-aligned incentives • Remote-first, outcome-driven working culture Equal Opportunity Venx is an equal opportunity employer.
