Role and Responsibilities of a U.S. Insurance Agent in Logistics 1. Risk Assessment & Advisory Analyze logistics operations (trucking, warehousing, intermodal, etc.) to identify potential risks. Advise logistics companies on suitable insurance coverages, such as cargo insurance, liability insurance, or contingent broker coverage. 2. Policy Structuring & Customization Design customized insurance policies tailored to the logistics client’s operations—this may include: Motor Truck Cargo Insurance Auto Liability Insurance General Liability Workers’ Compensation Freight Broker Bond (BMC-84) 3. Regulatory Compliance Ensure clients meet all federal (FMCSA) and state-level insurance requirements. Assist in filing insurance documentation for USDOT, MC Number activation, etc. 4. Claims Management Guide logistics clients through the claims process in case of cargo loss, theft, accidents, or damage. Liaise with insurance carriers to settle claims efficiently and fairly. 5. Client Support & Renewals Regularly review policies for adequacy based on business changes (e.g., new routes, clients, fleet expansion). Proactively manage renewals and suggest improvements in coverage. 6. Education & Awareness Educate logistics businesses about minimizing risks through operational practices (e.g., proper cargo securing, driver safety training).
