General Manager – Customs Clearance

As we scale up nationally and digitally, we are looking for a senior leader to take full charge of our customs clearance vertical and drive performance, compliance, and service excellence across teams. Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced General Manager – Customs Clearance to oversee and lead the entire Import and Export Clearance Teams across India. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day execution, team building, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement in both import and export customs operations. The role requires deep operational expertise, people leadership, and strategic thinking. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Oversight • Lead and manage all Import and Export Clearance teams at ports, ICDs, and airports across India • Supervise team leads, allocate manpower efficiently, and ensure coordination across branches • Build, train, and scale high-performing customs clearance teams with SOP-driven execution • Assist in on-boarding of new customers for customs clearance • Set KPIs, monitor performance, and enforce accountability and compliance • Develop succession planning, conduct regular training, and mentor team members • Work closely with recruitment and HR to hire skilled clearance professionals Import Customs Operations • Oversee full-cycle import operations including: o Bill of Entry filing, classification, valuation, assessment, and duty calculation o RMS/Faceless Clearance, IGMs, OOC issuance, bonded cargo management o Handling SEZ, DTA, EPCG, Advance License, and high-value or perishable imports o Ensure coordination with shipping lines, port terminals, transporters, and clients Export Customs Operations • Supervise end-to-end export processes such as: o Shipping Bill filing, factory stuffing, self-sealing, LEO, and EDI documentation o Post-clearance documentation (EGM, drawback, RoDTEP, MEIS, etc.) o Clearance under government incentive schemes, including project exports and re-exports o Handle urgent/priority shipments and customs escalations with speed and precision Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management • Ensure all activities comply with CBIC regulations, DGFT policies, and customs circulars • Maintain up-to-date documentation, audit preparedness, and SOP compliance • Represent the company with customs officials and allied government agencies • Proactively address red flags like customs queries, show cause notices, delays, or penalties Client and Cross-Functional Coordination • Serve as a single point of escalation for customs clearance issues raised by key clients • Collaborate with Freight, Customer Service, Transport, and Finance teams • Design client-specific clearance workflows to reduce delays and improve efficiency • Suggest tech-based improvements in workflow management and visibility Required Experience & Skills: • 15+ years of end-to-end experience in customs clearance operations (both import & export) • Strong technical expertise in Bill of Entry, Shipping Bill, RMS, Faceless Assessment, SEZ/DTA, and bonded cargo handling • Leadership experience in managing large clearance teams across multiple locations • Hands-on with systems such as ICEGATE, Visual Impex, Logi-Sys, or similar platforms • Excellent communication, team management, and client-handling skills • Customs G-Card or F-Card holder strongly preferred Why Join Tiger Logistics? • Lead and shape a core vertical at a respected and growing logistics company • Full ownership of operations with autonomy to build, scale, and optimize teams • Work in a growth-oriented and transparent work culture • Attractive compensation and the opportunity to build long-term impact Show more Show less
