Job Description for Desktop/Server Support Technician Avocette is currently searching for a Desktop/Server Support Technician to join our team. This is a permanent position working out of our New Westminster office. The Role:We are looking for an Intermediate Desktop Support Technician with entry-level Server and cloud experience to join our Head Office team in New Westminster. The ideal candidate will help us to manage a frequently changing and expanding inventory of desktop and laptop computers as well as provide a wide range of services related to these systems. The candidate has hands-on technical skills and the ability to manage the full lifecycle of a computer. The ability to work independently is crucial, though strong teamwork and communication is also needed on a day to day basis. In addition, the candidate should have at least 1 year of experience working with server hardware and Operating Systems, as the position will involve entry-level server work with a chance to grow rapidly into projects involving server hardware, Operating Systems, and Applications. Experience with cloud technologies such as Azure and Office 365 is a strong asset to the position and the use and administration of these cloud-based technologies will become a day to day component of the job. Responsibilities:Troubleshoot general system issues on both the OS/Software and Hardware levelsPerform a variety of software installations on request; give general support for various different types of end usersCollaborate with colleagues to plan and make computer purchases. Maintain detailed inventory of all hardware coming in and out of the environment. Keep organized stock of IT assetsImage and deploy computers both manually and with deployment toolsPrioritize work in a ticket based support systemParticipate in planning and policy creation for new desktop and server infrastructure, periodically reviewing existing policies/standards and, where appropriate, recommending improvementsCreate clear documentation to clarify procedures for other techniciansWork with external IT Vendors/Suppliers for purchasing, support and troubleshooting Create and modify user and email accounts, on-premises and in Office 365; assist with onboarding new employees and contractorsInteract with our clients when needed for desktop and server support workCommunicate clearly with IT Support team, internal Staff, and clients in both written and spoken formatsPerform after hours work on emergency and scheduled basis and be on an on-call support rotation Skills and Experience: 3+ years Windows desktop OS experience (Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10) 1+ years Windows Server OS experience (2008R2, 2012R2, 2016), Virtualization a strong assetExperience with Microsoft Office is a strong assetUnderstanding of the basics of Active Directory an assetSmartphone Support Experience (iPhone, Android)Strong organizational skills and customer service skillsITIL experience an assetExcellent Report & Documentation writing skills, Communication skillsCloud experience (Azure, O365) is extremely helpful to the position Education:Preference will be given to candidates with MCSA/MCSE level certifications in Microsoft Desktop technologies, Network certifications such as Network+, and/or cloud certifications in Azure or AWS. Virtualization certification and experience is strongly valued, both in Microsoft and VMWare technologiesCollege certificate/Diploma is an asset but experience in the field is also valued.
