Job Description – Digital Modeller (CAS & Class-A) (2-6 Years Experience) Key Responsibilities: Responsible for the end-to-end production of CAS and Class-A (A-side) surface data, from sketch interpretation to final release. Participate in surface reviews and evaluation sessions for both CAS and Class-A stages, ensuring quality, accuracy, and adherence to design intent. Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical and design-related challenges throughout the development process. Independently convert 2D sketches and renderings into high-quality 3D concept models using Sub-D, Maya, or Cinema 4D for sketch modelling (polygon-based). Progress CAS models using surfacing techniques, ensuring that both design and initial engineering requirements are met. At the Class-A stage, translate CAS models into fully production-feasible surfaces by performing detailed surface refinements, including curvature analysis, continuity, highlights, Gaussian analysis, and patch layout optimization. Strong understanding of DTS (Design Technical Specifications), with the ability to execute surface creation based on defined engineering criteria, including flanging operations. Experience using VRED for real-time visualization and design validation across stages. Skilled in managing surface data delivery from initial sketch through CAS to Class-A, ensuring adherence to timelines and technical standards. Additional Notes: Candidates should be capable of handling the complete workflow, from Sub-D sketch modelling to final Class-A delivery. CAS stage focuses on design expression and initial engineering requirements. Class-A stage emphasizes production feasibility, detailed engineering constraints, and surfacing standards. Knowledge and application of DTS are required during the CAS stage itself. Class-A modellers must ensure advanced surface refinement, including curvature accuracy, visual highlights, patch strategy, and continuity. Candidates must be comfortable with tools such as Alias, VRED, and Sub-D modelling software. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automobile, Industrial Engineering, or Transportation Design, with a Master’s in Transportation or Digital Design (preferably Alias-focused or a related field). Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with proficiency in Autodesk Alias software. Strong understanding of automotive interior and exterior CAS and Class-A surfacing, with hands-on experience in rapid digital modelling. Must have contributed to at least 2-3 production vehicle programs. Understand and pick up the designer's thoughts with ease.
