A Distribution Centre Manager oversees the daily operations of a warehouse or distribution facility, ensuring the efficient, accurate, and safe flow of goods from suppliers to customers. They manage staff, optimize processes, and utilize data to ensure timely delivery and cost-effective operations while maintaining high safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Operations Management: Oversee all daily activities, including receiving, put-away, picking, packing, shipping, and returns. Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to optimize workflow and productivity. Inventory Control: Maintain accurate inventory records through effective cycle counting and physical inventory reconciliation. Optimize storage solutions and warehouse layout to minimize discrepancies and obsolescence. Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a team of warehouse associates, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement. Logistics Coordination: Liaise with internal departments (e.g., procurement, sales, customer service) and external stakeholders (e.g., suppliers, transport companies) to ensure seamless operations and timely deliveries. Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as order fulfillment rates, inventory accuracy, and shipping times. Use data analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions. Safety & Compliance: Establish and enforce strict health, safety, and security protocols, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA). Budget Management: Manage the distribution center's budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains. Required Skills & QualificationsQualifications Education: A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is often preferred, though not always required. Experience: Typically requires 5+ years of experience in warehouse or distribution center operations, with proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Certifications: Professional certifications in logistics and supply chain management (e.g., APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)) are highly desirable. Technical Skills Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, and transportation management systems (TMS). Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to pull, interpret, and draw conclusions from data using tools like Excel.
