Job Summary
Lead the design, development, and delivery of native Android applications while serving as a hands-on technical leader. This role requires strong expertise in Android architecture, Kotlin development, Jetpack Compose, API integrations, performance optimization, and code quality practices. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to coding, drive technical decisions, mentor developers, and ensure scalable, high-quality mobile solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy native Android applications using Kotlin and Java.
- Architect and deliver complex Android features, modules, and integrations.
- Drive technical design discussions and make architecture decisions that support scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Build modern Android user interfaces using Jetpack Compose and Android UI frameworks.
- Integrate RESTful APIs and third-party services into Android applications.
- Conduct code reviews, establish development standards, and promote engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application issues related to performance, networking, lifecycle management, and state handling.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and backend teams throughout the development lifecycle.
- Implement and improve automated testing, code quality, and CI/CD processes.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level Android developers on technical solutions and coding standards.
- Ensure application security, reliability, maintainability, and release readiness.
- Support production deployments and participate in ongoing application enhancements and optimization initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in Android application development.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Android SDK.
- Experience developing and shipping production-grade Android applications.
- Hands-on experience with Android Studio, Git, Gradle, and Maven.
- Experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android development practices.
- Strong understanding of Android application architecture patterns such as MVVM and Clean Architecture.
- Experience integrating REST APIs and handling network communication.
- Proven experience performing code reviews and contributing to technical design discussions.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
- Experience working in Agile software development environments.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 to 9 years of overall Android development experience.
- Experience leading technical initiatives or functioning as a hands-on Android Tech Lead.
- Experience mentoring and coaching software engineers.
- Strong knowledge of Android application security best practices.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit, Espresso, and Mockito.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Bitrise.
- Knowledge of modular architecture and large-scale mobile application development.
- Experience optimizing application performance, startup time, memory management, and responsiveness.
- Prior experience in Retail, E-commerce, Digital Commerce, or Consumer Mobile Applications.
- Familiarity with Google Play Store release management and deployment processes.
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
- Knowledge of mobile analytics, crash monitoring, and observability tools such as Firebase, Crashlytics, or New Relic.
