Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer with strong expertise in Kubernetes administration, Linux infrastructure, PostgreSQL, Apache Cassandra and on-premises infrastructure management.
The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience managing bare-metal Kubernetes clusters, troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues, and handling database operations and high-availability environments.
Excellent communication skills are mandatory. Candidates must be comfortable interacting directly with customers, gathering requirements, conducting infrastructure sizing discussions and presenting technical recommendations. Candidates with average communication skills will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain on-premises and bare-metal Kubernetes clusters.
- Manage cluster installation, upgrades, node lifecycle and etcd backup/restore.
- Troubleshoot Kubernetes workloads, networking and infrastructure issues.
- Manage Linux servers, system performance, security and networking.
- Configure and maintain PostgreSQL and Apache Cassandra clusters.
- Implement database backup, recovery, replication, high availability and failover.
- Manage Kubernetes storage, persistent volumes and CSI drivers.
- Perform infrastructure sizing, capacity planning and performance optimization.
- Develop automation scripts and manage infrastructure using Ansible and Terraform.
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines and container infrastructure.
- Prepare technical documentation and regular project status reports.
- Lead and manage a team of 6+ resources.
- Interact with customers and provide technical recommendations.
Required Technical Skills
1. Kubernetes Administration
- Strong experience with on-premises / bare-metal Kubernetes clusters.
- kubeadm, RKE2/Rancher or OpenShift.
- Cluster installation, upgrades and node management.
- etcd backup and restore.
- Troubleshooting pod scheduling, CrashLoopBackOff, OOMKilled and resource limits.
- Kubernetes networking: Calico, Cilium, Flannel, Services and Ingress.
- CoreDNS, NetworkPolicies and MetalLB.
2. Linux Administration & Networking
- RHEL, Rocky Linux or Ubuntu.
- systemd, kernel tuning, patching and security hardening.
- Performance troubleshooting using top, vmstat, iostat, sar and journalctl.
- TCP/IP, DNS, routing, VLANs, iptables/nftables and firewalls.
- Network troubleshooting using tcpdump, ss, ip, dig, traceroute and curl.
- HAProxy, NGINX and Keepalived.
3. PostgreSQL Database
- PostgreSQL installation, configuration and administration.
- Backup and restore.
- Streaming replication, high availability and failover.
- PostgreSQL performance tuning.
- Running PostgreSQL on Kubernetes using CloudNativePG, Zalando, Crunchy or Patroni.
4. Apache Cassandra
- Cassandra cluster installation and administration.
- Node scaling, repairs, compaction and nodetool.
- Backup and restore.
- Running Cassandra on Kubernetes using K8ssandra or Cass Operator.
5. Storage & Infrastructure
- PV/PVC, StorageClasses and CSI drivers.
- Ceph/Rook, Longhorn, NFS and local persistent volumes.
- Infrastructure sizing and capacity planning.
- CPU, memory, storage, IOPS and network optimization.
6. DevOps & Automation
- Docker / containerd.
- Helm Charts and Harbor private container registries.
- Bash / Shell scripting.
- Ansible and Terraform.
- Jenkins, GitLab CI (self-hosted) and GitHub Actions.
Mandatory Communication & Leadership Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact directly with customers.
- Experience gathering technical requirements.
- Ability to conduct infrastructure sizing discussions.
- Confidence in presenting technical solutions and recommendations.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Leadership experience managing a team of 6+ resources.
Candidate Requirements
- 7+ years of relevant DevOps experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in Kubernetes administration on on-premises / bare-metal clusters.
- Strong Linux, PostgreSQL and Cassandra administration knowledge.
- Excellent customer-facing communication skills.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
