Role Senior Database Engineer – MySQL & PostgreSQL Location Bangalore/ Chennai Position – 01 . Location – Bangalore . Work from client office 3 days Job Summary We are looking for an experienced MySQL & PostgreSQL Database Engineer with 6+ years of hands on experience in database development, administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and production support. The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining highly available and scalable database environments. The role requires strong expertise in MySQL and PostgreSQL, SQL development, query optimization, database performance, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting of production issues. Key Responsibilities Database Development . Design and develop database schemas, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, functions, and triggers. . Develop complex and optimized SQL queries for MySQL and PostgreSQL. . Perform database design and data modeling based on application requirements. . Review existing database structures and recommend improvements. . Support database migration and data transformation activities. Performance Tuning . Analyze and optimize slow running SQL queries. . Perform execution plan analysis and identify performance bottlenecks. . Optimize indexes, joins, stored procedures, functions, and database configurations. . Monitor database performance and proactively identify capacity and performance issues. . Work closely with application teams to resolve database related performance problems. MySQL & PostgreSQL Administration . Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. . Manage database users, roles, permissions, and security. . Configure and monitor database parameters. . Perform database health checks and capacity planning. . Support high availability and replication environments. Backup & Recovery . Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies. . Perform database restoration and recovery activities. . Validate backup integrity and recovery procedures. . Participate in disaster recovery activities and drills. Production Support . Provide L2/L3 database support for production environments. . Troubleshoot database incidents and identify root causes. . Participate in incident, problem, and change management activities. . Support database deployments and production releases. . Work with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams to resolve issues. Migration & Upgrade . Participate in MySQL/PostgreSQL version upgrades and database migrations. . Perform database assessment, migration planning, validation, and post migration support. . Support migration between database environments where required. . Ensure data consistency and integrity during migration activities. Required Technical Skills MySQL . Strong hands on experience with MySQL 5.x/8.x. . Advanced SQL and query development. . Query optimization and execution plan analysis. . Indexing and database performance tuning. . MySQL replication and backup/recovery. . Stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views. . Database security, users, and privileges. PostgreSQL . Strong hands on experience with PostgreSQL. . Advanced SQL and PL/pgSQL. . Query optimization and execution plan analysis using tools such as EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE. . Indexing and performance tuning. . PostgreSQL backup and recovery. . Replication and high availability concepts. . Roles, permissions, and database security. . Stored procedures, functions, triggers, and views. General Database Skills . Strong understanding of RDBMS concepts. . Excellent SQL skills. . Data modeling and database design. . Database performance monitoring and troubleshooting. . High availability and disaster recovery concepts. . Database security and access management. . Strong understanding of production support processes. Preferred Skills . Experience working with AWS / Azure / GCP databases. . Experience with cloud managed database services such as Amazon RDS/Aurora or Azure Database services. . Knowledge of Docker/Kubernetes environments. . Experience with CI/CD and database deployment automation. . Knowledge of database monitoring tools. . Experience with scripting using Shell/Python. . Experience with database migration tools. . Exposure to Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform. Soft Skills . Strong analytical and problem solving skills. . Good communication and stakeholder management skills. . Ability to troubleshoot critical production issues under pressure. . Ability to work independently as well as within a distributed team. . Strong documentation and knowledge sharing skills. . Willingness to participate in on call/production support activities when required. Education . Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. . Equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
