Backend Architecture & Development

• Architect, build and deploy complex backend features and services using Ruby on Rails.
• Design robust database schemas and handle complex data migrations.
• Make thoughtful architectural decisions as our backend evolves.
• Own medium-to-large backend deliveries from design through deployment.

Performance & Reliability

• Improve backend performance, scalability and operational efficiency.
• Build application-level controls such as API rate limiting and traffic management.
• Implement strong logging, monitoring and alerting.
• Lead root-cause analysis and help resolve production issues quickly.

Quality & Security

• Maintain high engineering standards through rigorous code reviews.
• Build and maintain robust automated test suites.
• Proactively identify and reduce technical debt.
• Follow secure coding practices and safeguard sensitive user data.

AI & Engineering Workflows

• Explore and build AI-enabled development workflows.
• Help standardise tools and practices that can make engineering faster and more effective.
• Identify repetitive engineering work that can be automated.

Team & Technical Leadership

• Mentor junior engineers and raise the team's technical bar.
• Work closely with Product, Frontend and other stakeholders to turn business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Improve CI/CD and contribute to infrastructure and deployment improvements.
• Bring new ideas and influence how the team thinks about development.
