Role Overview
- Design and develop RF and microwave integrated circuits from specification through simulation, layout, verification, GDSII preparation, and post-fabrication evaluation.
- Work on power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, and other RF front-end/MMIC/RFIC building blocks under the guidance of senior designers, with increasing independent ownership.
- Contribute to customer-specific and product-specific designs by converting defined RF requirements into circuit-level implementations.
- This is a hands-on design role for engineers who want early ownership of real semiconductor development rather than simulation-only work.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand product and customer requirements and convert them into circuit-level design targets with guidance from senior engineers.
- Design RF/MMIC/RFIC circuit blocks, including power amplifiers, LNAs, and related RF front-end circuits.
- Perform schematic capture and RF circuit simulation using industry-standard design tools.
- Perform S-parameter, harmonic-balance, stability, compression, gain, efficiency, noise, and other relevant analyses.
- Design impedance-matching networks, bias networks, RF passives, and supporting circuitry.
- Optimize designs across frequency and relevant process, voltage, temperature, and operating-condition variations.
- Perform EM simulation of RF structures and include parasitic and distributed effects in circuit verification.
- Create and refine MMIC/RFIC layouts with attention to grounding, coupling, parasitics, current handling, symmetry, and thermal constraints.
- Execute DRC, LVS, and other foundry-required physical verification.
- Perform post-layout and EM-aware simulation and participate in design sign-off reviews.
- Prepare designs and associated documentation for GDSII release under senior review.
- Support post-fabrication characterization and compare measured performance with simulation.
- Debug design issues methodically and propose corrective actions based on simulation and measurement data.
- Prepare clear design notes, simulation reports, and technical presentations.
- Participate actively in schematic, layout, verification, and tapeout reviews.
- Progress toward independent ownership of complete RF blocks and smaller MMIC developments.
Required Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech., M.E./M.Tech., or MS in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, Microelectronics, or a closely related discipline.
- 1–3 years of relevant RFIC/MMIC, RF/analog IC, or microwave circuit design experience.
- Strong understanding of S-parameters, impedance matching, transmission lines, gain, noise, stability, nonlinear behavior, P1dB, IP3, RF power, efficiency, and passive RF networks.
- Hands-on experience using an RF/MMIC design environment such as Keysight ADS, Cadence Virtuoso, or Cadence/AWR Microwave Office.
- Practical design exposure to at least one RF circuit such as a PA, LNA, driver, switch, attenuator, mixer, phase shifter, or related front-end block.
- Understanding of IC layout and the effect of parasitics, grounding, coupling, and physical implementation on RF performance.
- Exposure to EM simulation using Momentum, HFSS, EMX, Sonnet, CST, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical ability and willingness to debug designs from first principles rather than rely only on tool optimization.
- Ability to document and communicate technical work clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GaN or GaAs MMIC design.
- Experience with RF power-amplifier or LNA design.
- Participation in at least one IC/MMIC tapeout.
- Experience taking a circuit from schematic through layout and physical verification.
- Familiarity with PDK-based design, DRC/LVS, and GDSII generation.
- Hands-on RF measurement experience using VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators, power meters, probe stations, or related equipment.
- Exposure to post-layout/EM co-simulation and simulation-to-silicon correlation.
- Basic understanding of semiconductor device physics relevant to RF design and foundry process limitations.
What We Expect From This Role
- Strong fundamentals and curiosity about why a circuit behaves as it does, not just whether a simulation converges.
- Ability to take ownership of an RF block, carry it through implementation, and respond constructively to design-review feedback.
- A disciplined approach to simulation, layout, verification, documentation, and measurement correlation.
- Clear progression toward independent ownership of increasingly complete MMIC/RFIC designs.
