Head - Procurement (BESS)

Reporting To-Business Head / CEO - BESS

Role Purpose

Lead and drive the complete procurement function for the BESS business, ensuring competitive sourcing, supplier development, quality assurance, cost optimization, localization, risk mitigation, and uninterrupted supply of materials for manufacturing and project execution. The role will be responsible for establishing a robust supply chain ecosystem to support the rapid growth of the BESS business.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Leadership

• Develop and execute the overall procurement strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Lead Direct, Indirect, SQA, STA, and Vendor Development functions.
• Build a high-performance procurement organization and develop team capabilities.
• Drive procurement governance, policies, compliance, and best practices.

Direct Material Procurement

Manage sourcing and procurement of key BESS commodities including:

Battery & Energy Storage Components

• Lithium-ion Cells (LFP, NMC)
• Battery Modules
• Battery Packs
• Battery Management Systems (BMS)
• Busbars and Connectors
• Wiring Harnesses
• Fuses & Protection Devices
• Cooling Systems
• Thermal Interface Materials

Electrical & Power Electronics

• Inverters / PCS
• Transformers
• Switchgear
• Relays and Contactors
• Distribution Panels
• Cables & Cable Assemblies
• Power Conversion Components

Mechanical Commodities

• Sheet Metal Fabrications
• Enclosures and Cabinets
• Structural Components
• Cooling Assemblies

Electronics & Control Systems

Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Development

• Develop global and local sourcing strategies.
• Drive supplier localization initiatives.
• Build alternate sourcing plans for business continuity.
• Identify and onboard new suppliers.
• Conduct supplier capability assessments.
• Negotiate long-term agreements and strategic partnerships.

Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA)

• Establish supplier quality systems.
• Drive supplier audits and process improvements.
• Monitor supplier performance through KPIs.
• Lead quality issue resolution with suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with automotive and energy industry standards.

Cost Management & Commercial Excellence

• Achieve annual cost reduction targets.
• Implement VA/VE and localization projects.
• Conduct should-cost analysis and benchmarking.
• Negotiate commercial agreements, contracts, and payment terms.
• Improve overall procurement productivity.

Supply Chain Risk Management

• Develop mitigation plans for critical commodities.
• Monitor market trends, commodity pricing, and geopolitical risks.
• Ensure continuity of supply for critical projects.
• Manage inventory optimization and working capital.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Projects, Quality, Finance, and Program Management teams.
• Work closely with global suppliers and OEM partners.
• Support new product development and project launches.
