PhD Position in Wide Area Protection and Control Applications for Power Systems

As a candidate for the PhD Position in Wide Area Protection and Control Applications at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), you will be responsible for the following key tasks: - Develop optimization-based applications aimed at determining dynamic system rating (DSR) among virtual zones within decentralized power systems. - Utilize real-time SCADA and PMU measurements to dynamically identify virtual zones and implement zonal autonomous control. - Conduct testing of the developed applications using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms with software tools such as RTDS and PSS/E. - Ensure the continuous operation of the application to uphold system security and provide optimal preventive and corrective actions. To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements: - Hold an MSc degree in Electrical Power Engineering or a closely related field. - Possess a strong background in electrical power system operation, protection, and wide area monitoring applications. - Have proficiency in programming and experience with EMT-based software tools and PSS/E. - Knowledge and experience with RTDS is highly advantageous. - Exhibit excellent analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills. - Demonstrate proficiency in English, with a minimum TOEFL score of 100 or IELTS 7.0 per sub-skill (writing, reading, listening, speaking).
