Pace Robotics is a construction robotics startup incubated by SINE IIT-Bombay and backed by Pidilite Ventures and IIMA Ventures . We are making the building construction process faster, smarter and efficient through our multi-tasking robots. We have been working with top real estate developers and contractors through pilot projects and are gearing up for delivering the first lot of commercial orders in few months. We’re looking for a mechanical design intern highly skilled in static and dynamic to support our product development team. Internship duration: 6 months. Subject to your performance and interest, we may offer you a permanent role at the end of 6-month internship period. What you will do: Conceptualize, design and analyse all mechanical components for the robot such as– base platform, linkages, mounting components, actuators, hydraulic components etc. Work on kinematic, dynamic and material analysis of all above components to optimize weight and improve robustness. Work on optimizing all moving components, with an emphasis on improving accuracy, reducing failure and vibrations. Optimize parts for cost-effective manufacturing while maintaining design intent. Collaborate with engineering and sourcing teams to incorporate DFM/DFA considerations. Support design iterations based on testing or manufacturing feedback. Who you are: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with up to 1 year of experience working in Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis You have a Deep understanding of Kinematics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials and Design of Structures including Vibrations and exposure to FEA Very strong base in mathematical topics – Integral + Differential Calculus, ODE + PDE, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra and Laplace Transform Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices Experience/knowledge of manufacturing methods and DFM Experience/knowledge with scientific programming on python/Matlab.(Good to have) Experience/knowledge with CAD tools such as AutoCAD/Solidworks/NX etc. You are excited about building never-seen-before products from scratch, interacting with users to identify opportunities and derive design inputs. Our first product is a modular wall finishing robot for putty, sanding and painting of building interiors. What You Will Do Assemble and install systems for electrical energy supply, control, signaling. Assemble and test PCBs, electronics circuits, dot boards; prepare bench test setups PCB/electronics troubleshooting and debugging, circuit analysis Solder SMD, QFN, SOIC, SSOP, TQFP, DIP ICs and components PCB/circuitry design and schematics, cable harness design Assemble manually and mechanically, crimping, screwing, clamping, plugging, soft soldering, gluing etc. Wire built-in components and assemblies to each other using overhead, duct, cables. Commissioning electrical power systems, control, signaling as well as electrical safety and monitoring devices. Perform measurements; Check the condition and functioning of electrical equipment and system components. Narrow down or determine errors. Fill out maintenance documents, create test and repair reports Work through instructions, documents and samples. Handle operations and maintenance of our fleet of robots Who You Are ITI/Diploma in Electronics/Electrical Engineering from reputed institute Min. 4-5 years’ experience in electrical/electronics field Working exp. with soldering, wiring, wire harness fabrication, relays, contactors, circuit-brakers, servo-motors, surge protectors, transformers, rectifiers, inverters, dc-dc convertors, SMPS, battery etc Knowledge/working experience with digital components and circuitry, power electronics, micro-controllers/processors, lab equipment like oscilloscopes, function generators etc, familiar with common industrial grade sensors Ability to work from office and travel to construction sites and independently handle robot site operations/trials/pilots Should have very good knowledge of line testing, resistance, voltage, connectivity and frequency testing Ability to handle multiple and diverse electrical/electronics projects in individual and team settings Experience in automotive/aerospace/defense equipment domain is preferred What's In It For You Globally, Construction provides a 1.6 Trillion Dollar opportunity, just by making the work more efficient. What You Will Do Work with product designers and mechanical engineers to create effective, viable and manufacturable machine part designs and assemblies. Conceptualize and design 3d models of components, parts and assemblies considering DFMA. Convert 3d models into manufacturable detailed drawings with appropriate GD&T following ISO GPS or other relevant standards. Handle part selection, mechanism design/selection, basic kinematics, dynamics and solid mechanics calculations of the designs. Create simulations/kinematic studies where applicable. Create BOMs, manufacturing process layouts, inspection drawings, assembly procedures and support in all manufacturing activities including vendor management, procurement, quality and inspection etc. Manage all designs from concept to manufacturing finalization using relevant PLM software. Who You Are You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s degree in Industrial Design/Mechanical Engineering with a minimum work experience of 5 years and proficiency in both SolidWorks and NX Siemens. Design work experience in tooling/special machines/test equipment or similar industries. Manufacturing work experience in automotive or related industry. Strong hands on experience with precision parts and sheet metal modelling. Extensive knowledge and practical experience with GD&T procedures, DFMA, standards and application. Knowledge and experience with PLM software. First hand experience with basic manufacturing processes such as milling, drilling, turning, bending, welding (TIG and ARC), heat treatment, stamping, 3d printing and moulding. Strong fundamentals in machine design including knowledge of material selection, basics of mechanics/kinematics/dynamics, Solid Mechanics, selection of components such as bearings, power transmission, motors, pneumatics, shock absorbers, joints and fasteners etc. Knowledge and first hand experience with metrology and measurement tools such as CMM, Profile Scanners, Height Gauge, Dial Gauge, Calipers etc. You prefer the uncertain, ever changing, at times-chaotic but fast growing work environment of a startup to a well-structured, predictable corporate work culture.
