Job Description

The Assistant Professor in Optometry Technology will be responsible for teaching, research, and clinical training in the field of optometry, with a focus on the use of optical instruments, eye care techniques, and vision science. The individual will educate students on the various aspects of optometry, including vision testing, refraction techniques, optical instrument usage, and patient care. Additionally, the Assistant Professor will contribute to the academic development of the program through research and curriculum development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Instruction:
  • Deliver lectures, practical demonstrations, and hands-on training in courses related to optometry technology, including visual optics, refraction, eye anatomy, and optical instrumentation.
  • Teach students the use of various diagnostic and corrective instruments such as refractors, tonometers, and slit lamps.
  • Develop, update, and implement course content and instructional materials to align with industry standards and technological advancements.
  • Provide laboratory instruction and supervision in the operation of optical equipment, performing eye tests, and conducting patient assessments.
  • Assess student performance through exams, assignments, and practical assessments.
  • Clinical Supervision and Training:
  • Supervise and guide students during their clinical rotations or practical training, ensuring that they gain experience in vision testing, patient care, and the use of diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world clinical settings, including performing eye examinations and interpreting test results.
  • Provide mentorship and hands-on training to students in interpreting visual data, fitting eyewear, and other clinical procedures.
  • Research and Scholarly Activities:
  • Engage in research related to optometry technology, vision science, new optometric devices, or innovative diagnostic procedures.
  • Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences or symposiums related to optometry or vision care.
  • Seek research funding through grants or collaborations with industry partners in the field of optometry.
  • Curriculum Development and Improvement:
  • Contribute to the continuous development and revision of the optometry technology curriculum to ensure it reflects current trends, technologies, and best practices in the field.
  • Design course syllabi, practical exercises, and assessments to support the program's learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to review and enhance the program's teaching methodologies and academic standards.
  • Professional Development and Continuing Education:
  • Stay current with advancements in optometry technology, visual health, and emerging treatment methodologies through continuing education, conferences, and research.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities such as workshops, seminars, and specialized training in optometry.
  • Encourage students to participate in relevant professional certifications and associations.
  • Student Support and Mentorship:
  • Advise students on academic and professional matters, including clinical training, career pathways, and research opportunities.
  • Provide support to students in their academic pursuits, offering feedback and guidance to help them succeed in coursework and clinical practice.
  • Offer mentorship to students working on research projects or capstone assignments.
  • Service to the Department and Institution:
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and activities that contribute to the overall growth and development of the optometry program.
  • Assist in accreditation processes, program evaluations, and other institutional responsibilities.
  • Help organize community outreach activities, vision screening programs, or student-run optometry clinics to increase public awareness of eye health.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:
  • A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Optometry Technology, Vision Science, or a related field.
  • A Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree is highly preferred.
  • Certification or licensure in optometry (or the equivalent) may be required depending on the region or country.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹45,945.51 per month
