OpenShift Virtualization Engineer

The ideal candidate must have practical experience in end-to-end VM migration, OpenShift Container Platform (OCP 4.x) deployment and administration, and troubleshooting production environments. Candidates with only Kubernetes or general OpenShift administration experience, without actual VM migration delivery, will not be suitable.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end virtual machine migration from VMware vSphere/ESXi to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.
• Assess source VM inventory, workload dependencies, migration readiness and infrastructure requirements.
• Plan and execute migration waves, cutover activities, rollback strategies and post-migration validation.
• Work with OpenShift Virtualization, KubeVirt and Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV).
• Deploy, configure and support production OpenShift 4.x clusters on bare-metal infrastructure.
• Perform cluster installation and troubleshooting using IPI/UPI deployment methods.
• Configure and troubleshoot networking, storage, Operators and cluster components.
• Resolve VM migration failures, connectivity issues, storage problems and production incidents.
• Support OpenShift cluster upgrades, performance optimization and operational stability.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, virtualization, networking and application teams.

Mandatory Technical Skills

• 8+ years of overall IT/infrastructure/platform engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with VMware-to-OpenShift Virtualization VM migration.
• Strong practical knowledge of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization and KubeVirt.
• Experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.
• Production deployment or administration of OpenShift Container Platform 4.x on bare metal.
• Hands-on experience with IPI/UPI installation and cluster troubleshooting.
• Understanding of VM inventory, dependencies, migration planning, cutover and rollback.
• Strong knowledge of OpenShift networking, storage, Operators and cluster administration.
• Experience troubleshooting migration and production issues independently.

Good-to-Have Skills

• Ansible automation.
• Argo CD, GitOps, Tekton or Jenkins.
• Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM).
• OVN-Kubernetes networking.
• OpenShift cluster upgrades, including EUS-to-EUS upgrades.
• Red Hat OpenShift certification, such as EX280.
