Key Responsibilities: 1. Safety Management Implement, monitor, and maintain plant safety systems and procedures as per the Factories Act and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management System). Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across production, rolling mill, furnace, raw material handling, and maintenance areas. Identify unsafe acts and conditions, initiate corrective and preventive actions. Ensure Permit to Work (PTW) system compliance for hot work, confined space, electrical isolation, and height work. Monitor and maintain records for PPE issuance and compliance, including awareness on correct usage. Conduct safety toolbox talks and regular communication on EHS practices for shop floor employees and contract workers. Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; prepare reports and implement corrective measures. 2. Environment Management Ensure compliance with Pollution Control Board (SPCB/CPCB) norms for air, water, noise, and waste management. Monitor and record stack emissions, effluent discharge, and waste generation. Support implementation of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and conduct periodic audits. Coordinate waste management programs — hazardous waste disposal, slag handling, and scrap segregation as per environmental guidelines. Ensure upkeep of ETP/STP, air pollution control systems (bag filters, scrubbers, etc.) and monitor performance. Liaise with SPCB for environmental clearances, consents, and compliance returns. 3. Health & Occupational Hygiene Facilitate health surveillance and periodic medical check-ups for employees and contract workers. Ensure proper functioning of first-aid rooms and availability of trained first aiders. Monitor workplace conditions — lighting, ventilation, noise levels, dust exposure, and ergonomics. Conduct awareness programs on industrial hygiene and occupational health risks. 4. Training & Awareness Prepare and execute annual EHS training calendar for all categories of employees. Conduct induction training for new employees, contractors, and visitors on plant safety and environmental norms. Promote EHS culture through campaigns, safety week celebrations, posters, and competitions. 5. Statutory Compliance & Documentation Maintain statutory records as per the Factories Act, Hazardous Waste Rules, and other EHS-related legislations. Prepare and submit statutory returns to regulatory authorities (Factory Inspectorate, PCB, etc.). Support in audits by external agencies and government departments. Maintain documentation for ISO 14001 & 45001 systems and assist in internal/external audits.
