Cost Estimating Engineer Description: MES, Inc provides supply chain solutions to a variety of Fortune 500 OEM's and Tier 1 suppliers. We service lighting, automotive, agriculture and general industrial customers. This position should be based from Coimbatore, India. We will consider candidates in Pune as well. Estimator Job Purpose: Cost Estimating Engineer is a part of the team responsible for doing about 700-800 RFQs for about 80 customers. This individual will work with In-house manufacturing as well as sourcing team in China, India, Vietnam, Mexico and Poland to estimating costs and put together quotes for the customer. Estimating engineer will also participate in manufacturing and process engineering activities at MES’s or supplier’s manufacturing locations to understand cost and productivity drivers and assist on special projects to help reduce costs and helping MES get more competitive with customers. Estimator Job Duties: • Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. • Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. • Work extensively with offshore sourcing teams in India, China, Vietnam, Poland and Mexico to get competitive and verified supplier quotes • Computes costs for In-house processes by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements. Or works with plant teams for internal process cost estimates. • Must be familiar with Should-Cost process to estimate quickly at times when urgent quotes is needed • Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. • Presents prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information. • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. • Maintains cost data base by entering and backing up data. • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications. • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. • Communicates with both sourcing/suppliers and sales team regarding the proposal. Discusses any issues and manages questions on both sides. • Assists sourcing and sales team members in advanced engineering and advanced sourcing activities • Assists sales team members with presentations on new projects to win business. • Works with MES’s manufacturing plants on special process engineering assignments related to tooling, maintenance, and process costs for cost savings and better cost understanding • Works with suppliers to understand their cost structure, cost drivers and help in improving projects to drive costs, improve productivity and competitiveness.
