Job Summary The Manager is a people manager responsible for the accurate and timely filing of US sales and use tax returns for clients. The role oversees quality control and drives team performance. It manages and develops staff, builds mentoring programs, and serves as an escalation point for internal and external customers. The Manager delivers departmental KPIs and supports strategic initiatives while maintaining high client satisfaction and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities - Prepare and oversee the filing of 500+ sales and use tax returns per month, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Supervise, coach, develop, train and mentor tax return processing staff to achieve personal and business goals.
- Build and manage mentoring programs for the team, and ensure career development plans for all direct reports.
- Ensure quality control for clients within the team and manage the client onboarding process.
- Serve as an escalation point for internal and external customers, resolving issues promptly.
- Help plan, organize and coordinate the operation of the business.
- Manage and communicate the status of internal processes to meet deadlines and business requirements.
- Implement and manage process and system changes, driving innovation and efficiency.
- Ensure continuing development and documentation of internal processes and procedures.
- Recommend improvements to increase performance.
- Lead or take part in strategic initiatives and other projects as needed.
- Ensure client notices from tax authorities are handled on time.
- Work with product management, treasury and development teams to improve and prioritize manual and automated processes.
- Represent the department at speaking engagements as needed.
- Work overtime, holidays and weekends based on business need; occasional travel may be required.
People Management Responsibilities
- Manage and develop staff to achieve business goals.
- Plan appropriate staffing to meet goals and objectives.
- Coach employees on performance gaps, career development and strategies.
- Mentor and coach employees on HR processes, including onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation and rewards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.
- 3+ years of leadership experience in sales and use tax outsourcing or a related field.
- Prior mentoring and leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of US sales and use tax return compliance.
- Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft 365 and indirect tax returns software.
- IPT or another industry certification.
- Ability to work under tight monthly deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA.
- Management or leadership certification.
