Role & responsibilities

(a) Strategic Sourcing & Procurement

  • Translate engineering, operational and business requirements into sourcing strategies, RFQs and procurement plans.
  • Identify, evaluate and develop reliable domestic and international suppliers for technical and general requirements.
  • Obtain quotations, prepare techno-commercial comparisons, costing, negotiate price and terms, and place/track purchase orders. • Drive cost, lead-time and supply-risk reduction without compromising approved technical and quality requirements.

(b) Technical Procurement & Supplier Development

  • Understand specifications, drawings, BOMs, part numbers, datasheets and other technical procurement requirements.
  • Coordinate technical evaluation, samples, compliance documents, certificates and first-article/initial supply requirements.
  • Develop alternate sources for critical, imported and single-source components.
  • Coordinate supplier issues, corrective actions, delivery recovery and technical clarifications with Engineering and Quality teams.
  • Support supplier qualification, audits, capability assessment and localization/indigenization initiatives.

(c) Import, Export, Customs & Tax Coordination

  • Coordinate end-to-end import/export activities with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and Finance.
  • Control commercial invoices, packing lists, shipping documents, Bills of Entry and other applicable trade records.
  • Maintain working knowledge of HS classification, customs duty, IGST, landed cost and applicable trade requirements.
  • Coordinate DGFT/IEC, ICEGATE and export-control requirements, including SCOMET, where applicable.

(d) Supply Chain, Logistics & Inventory

  • Track material requirements from demand through supplier commitment, dispatch, clearance, receipt and availability.
  • Monitor critical shortages, lead times, logistics status and risks affecting engineering or programme schedules.
  • Coordinate domestic/international logistics, freight forwarders, customs brokers and delivery priorities.
  • Maintain visibility of critical spares, imported items, open orders and expected delivery dates.
  • Support inventory optimisation, traceability and timely availability of materials to Engineering, Manufacturing and Operations.

(e) Supplier Performance, Cost & Risk Management

  • Monitor supplier performance on quality, cost, delivery and responsiveness; drive recovery where required.
  • Evaluate total landed cost, including purchase price, freight, insurance, duties, taxes and other applicable charges.
  • Identify supply risks and establish alternate suppliers, buffers or mitigation plans for critical items.
  • Maintain supplier database, performance records, commercial history and sourcing intelligence.
  • Support negotiations, cost reduction, make/buy decisions and supplier development initiatives.

(f) Procurement Process, Governance & Capability Building

  • Ensure procurement transactions, commitments and material status are accurately reflected in ERP/MIS systems.
  • Coordinate with Finance/Tax on GST, IGST, TDS, customs duty and other applicable tax/commercial matters; procurement does not replace Finance/Tax ownership.
  • Establish and improve sourcing procedures, supplier databases, procurement dashboards and reporting cadence.

Preferred candidate profile

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in strategic sourcing, procurement and supply-chain operations
  • Strategic sourcing and negotiation
  • Technical understanding with commercial judgement
  • Supplier ownership and follow-through
  • Import/export, customs and trade-compliance awareness
  • GST/tax coordination and landed-cost discipline
  • Planning, material-availability and delivery focus
  • Supplier risk management and alternate-source development
  • Experience across both technical/direct procurement and general/indirect procurement is preferred.
  • Practical exposure to domestic and international sourcing, supplier management, logistics and material availability is required.
