Treatment Planning : Develop comprehensive treatment plans that may involve surgical procedures, non-surgical options like casting or medication, or rehabilitation through physical therapy. Prescribing Medication : Prescribe and administer medications for pain management and recovery, especially after surgical procedures. Surgical and Procedural Responsibilities Surgical Procedures : Perform a wide range of surgeries, such as repairing fractures, performing joint replacements (e.g., hip or knee), and reattaching ligaments and tendons. Post-Operative Care : Provide follow-up care for patients after surgery, monitoring their progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed. Collaborative and Educational Responsibilities Team Collaboration : Work with other members of the healthcare team, including physical therapists, radiologists, and nurses, to coordinate patient care. Patient Education : Educate patients about their condition, the recommended treatment options, and the rehabilitation process. Medical Training : May also be involved in teaching and supervising orthopedic residents and other medical personnel. Administrative Responsibilities Record Keeping : Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting symptoms, treatments, and progress. Emergency Response : Participate in on-call schedules to respond to emergencies and traumatic injuries requiring orthopedic intervention.
