We started back in 2018 when our founders, Divanshu and Samyak, both fresh out of IIT Madras, chose to skip placements and instead build something that mattered. We’ve worked with almost 1 million students across government schools in six Indian states. Our core program, Peer Teaching , trains senior students to mentor their juniors in foundational skills like reading and math. But it’s about more than academicsit’s about building confidence, communication, problem-solving, and agency. Because we believe agency is the key to breaking cycles of inequality and helping young people truly own their futures. Over the next 5 years we look forward to creating impact for 10 million children across the length and breadth of India! We work hand-in-hand with state and district governments in places like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Karnataka. We’ve been lucky to be backed by incredible partners like the Agency Fund, Acumen, Central Square Foundation, and Wells Fargo. And along the way, we’ve been recognized by platforms like HundrED and Reimagine Education for doing things differentlyand effectively. But honestly, what keeps us going is our students. The girl who ran her first peer-led session with shaky hands and a steady voice. The boy who found his voice helping his classmates. About the Fellowship: Join us as a Field Research Fellow in a unique 2-year fellowship program aimed at contributing to a large-scale Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) study. The study spans over Bhagalpur district of Bihar and explores the impact of peer teaching on student learning outcomes, agency, and social skill development. This fellowship provides an unparalleled opportunity for hands-on experience in large-scale educational research while fostering personal and professional growth. Role Summary: Research Field Expert will play a critical role in our research project focusing on improving learning outcomes in schools. This role involves frequent visits to schools, conducting data collection activities, building strong relationships with school teachers, and training them for the implementation of the program and the research protocols. Key Responsibilities: School Visits & Relationship Building Conduct regular visits to partner schools to oversee the research implementation. Build and maintain positive working relationships with school teachers, principals, and staff. Act as a liaison between the research team and school stakeholders to ensure smooth data collection and cooperation. Data Collection & Management Lead data collection efforts, including surveys, interviews, assessments, and school observation. Ensure accurate and timely data entry into research databases. Monitor data quality, ensuring consistency and adherence to research protocols. Teacher Training & Support Organize and conduct training sessions for school teachers on program implementation Provide ongoing support to teachers to ensure accurate data collection and effective implementation of school Peer Teaching programs. Help teachers understand the program's impact and motivate them to engage fully. Field Reporting & Communication Provide regular updates to the research lead on progress, challenges, and insights from the field. Document observations, challenges, and success stories during school visits. Collaborate with the research team to refine data collection tools and processes as needed. Qualification & Skills: Education: Bachelor's degree in social science field Experience: Field research experience doing small college projects, experience in working with schools and communities Skills: Should have a license and need to know how to drive a two-wheeler Strong relationship-building skills Strong ability to give presentations, provide training & facilitate sessions. Strong excel skills Strong organizational and time management skills Willingness to travel frequently for school visits. Overview of the Role: You will manage end-to-end implementation of our Program towards Student Agency in the district, starting with planning & implementing the Peer based program (around Foundational literacy and numeracy & project based learning ) in all blocks through working with Block resource centers to ensure successful program outcomes for all the students. You will be a part of the team which lays the foundation for the scale of Involve. This will include the following: 1. Implementation Understanding existing structures for different aspect of the program for ease of implementation Training of District, Block, and cluster resource centers on different aspects of Student Agency and project based learning. Regular interaction with all the stakeholders, visiting blocks and schools regularly to ensure the quality of the program on ground and understanding the implementation gaps Identifying the needs on the ground and designing/creating programs aligning to Involve’s vision with the support of Program Design team. Leading strategic planning, goal setting and intervention by unblocking bottlenecks, advocating with relevant stakeholders and strong implementation focus for successful project delivery. 2. Manage relationships: Building and maintaining relationships with relevant district and block-level officials (DM, DEO, DPOs, DIET Principal, Block Education Officers ). Engaging DEO, DIET, and other govt. Officials by regularly reporting, initiating formal/informal conversations and co-creating action plans with them. Identifying other CSOs aimed at addressing pressing needs at the school site. 3. Documenting and reporting Leading efforts to document and report progress & program gaps/challenges every month. Adapting tools or surveys to evaluate, collect data and document stakeholder (BACs, CACs, teachers, students) response to intervention. Coordinate the rollout of pilots and joint initiatives with partner organizations. Develop resource materials, session plans, and toolkits to strengthen partner implementation. 2. Partnership Strengthening: Facilitate ongoing engagement with partner organizations regular check-ins, joint reviews, and field coordination. Onboard and orient new partners into the partnership ecosystem. Draft and manage MoUs, proposals, and work plans collaboratively with partners. 3. Collective Building (The Agency Collective): Support operations and coordination of The Agency Collective platforms like Edu-Revolution, and learning circles. Organize monthly meetings, thematic discussions, and student-led showcases. Build and manage documentation, calendars, and knowledge sharing across the collective. 4. Communication & Storytelling: Manage internal communication across partners and collective members via WhatsApp, email, and shared documents. Document stories of change, partner case studies, and student experiences for internal and external dissemination. 5. Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL): Develop simple M&E tools to track partner capacity building, sustainability of practices, and student agency outcomes. Lead periodic reflection and learning processes with partners. Maintain a tracker or dashboard to support decision-making and course correction.
