Role & responsibilities
1. Warehouse operations across units
- Own inward, storage, picking, packing and dispatch readiness across all units.
- Make sure goods are ready against the daily dispatch plan and the allocation from Order Fulfillment.
- Set and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for GRN, put-away, FIFO, stacking, packing and documentation at every unit.
- Lead the warehouse supervisors with clear KRAs, daily reviews and shift discipline.
2. Inventory accuracy and stock integrity
- Run cycle counts, blind audits and reconciliation between SAP and physical stock.
- Control damages, pilferage and non-moving stock. Flag ageing and excess stock to Central Planning.
- Keep stock locations accurate so that allocation in Vector Flow and SAP can be trusted.
3. Space, layout and productivity
- Introduce space planning, racking and bin locations, and ABC-based layouts. The goal is to clear stock lying outside and end overstocking at the units.
- Improve manpower productivity and material handling equipment (MHE) usage.
- Track warehouse handling and storage cost, and reduce it.
4. Central warehouse: BTS or 3PL
-
Both routes
- Run the network study: location options, freight cost and service impact.
- Compare BTS and 3PL with Finance on total cost, capex vs opex, flexibility and control. Recommend a route.
- Plan and run the migration of stock and operations from the units.
- Build the warehouse network plan for the greenfield facility and future growth.
If BTS (company-run)
- Evaluate BTS developers and sites. Give lease inputs with Finance and Legal.
- Design the layout, racking and material handling equipment (MHE) for a high-SKU, small-parts range.
- Select and implement a WMS.
- Hire and build the warehouse team, and lead commissioning.
If 3PL (partner-run)
- Select the partner and review their solution design for company's products.
- Negotiate the contract:
SLAs (inventory accuracy, dispatch turnaround, order accuracy, GRN time, damage), with penalties
the pricing model, including minimum guarantees and extra charges
liability and insurance, data ownership, and exit terms
- Integrate the 3PL's system with SAP so orders and allocation flow by system, not email.
- Run governance: daily operations calls, weekly KPI reviews and monthly business reviews.
- Run company's own stock audits and reconciliation with SAP, and check 3PL invoices against the contract.
- Lead a small Company team on site for product knowledge, quality checks and exceptions.
5. Systems, safety and compliance
- Drive SAP warehouse management discipline. Lead WMS selection (BTS route), or the system integration between the 3PL and SAP (3PL route).
- Own safety, fire, statutory and audit compliance at all warehouses.
- Build a warehouse MIS and a weekly KPI review.
6. People and leadership
- Build the warehousing team in case of in-house warehouse; in case of 3PL, ensure that monitoring cadence and processes are set
- Work closely with Logistics on load formation and dock scheduling, and with Planning on inventory health
Preferred candidate profile
- 15+ years in warehousing and distribution, with at least 5 years heading a high-volume or multi-site operation.
- Has managed large teams (100+ including contract staff) through supervisors.
- Strong record on inventory accuracy, space utilisation and warehouse productivity, with numbers to show for it.
- Hands-on with SAP (WM or MM) and warehouse MIS.
- Has set up or migrated a warehouse (greenfield, BTS or a major re-layout), or has managed a 3PL warehouse partner against SLAs. Ideally both.
- Can work with Finance, Planning and Manufacturing as a peer, not just run the floor.
- Experience in high-SKU businesses such as hardware, consumer durables, building materials, auto components or e-commerce.
- Has selected or implemented a WMS, or integrated a 3PL's system with SAP.
- Has worked on network design: choosing warehouse locations based on freight cost and service.
- Has worked for the brand owner (principal), not only for a C&F agent or 3PL.
- Graduate degree; a supply chain or operations qualification is a plus.
- Has negotiated 3PL contracts or warehouse leases, and can compare in-house and outsourced cost with Finance.
- Has grown a team and developed a second line of leaders.
- Comfortable building systems and processes where there are none today.
- Data-driven, with a strong focus on safety and discipline.
