Role: General Manager – Technology
Department: R&D
Location: Pune
Work Mode: Work from office
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Experience: 15+ years, with significant time in technology and delivery leadership roles
About The Role

An experienced technology leader who combines deep understanding of enterprise solutions—across multiple languages, time zones and countries, using multiple business processes and technologies within a product/technology family—with proven strength in leading people and driving delivery at scale.

The GM – Technology owns the product as a continuous development process: planning, building and delivering releases predictably, with high quality and on time. This is a leadership role, not a hands-on coding role. The incumbent is expected to possess strong technical skills and guide the team on architecture and design, but not to write code themselves.

The role demands three things in balance: strong people leadership (a genuine man-manager who builds, grows and retains high-performing teams), execution leadership (predictable, disciplined delivery with the right process rigour), and technical depth (sound enough to guide design and challenge decisions). Performs varied and complex duties requiring independent judgment and decision-making to manage ETP products and technology to meet customer needs, applying and improving methodology, company procedures, and best practices.

People & Execution Leadership (core to this role):

  • Lead teams at scale — directly and indirectly lead a technology organization of 10 or more (developers, QA and leads), including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and building bench strength. Experience limited to small teams (single-digit) is not sufficient for this role.
  • Own delivery leadership — accountable end-to-end for on-time, on-scope, high-quality delivery of product releases; establish predictable, measurable execution rather than relying on individual heroics.
  • Be a strong man-manager — build, motivate and retain high-performing teams; set direction, resolve conflict, and grow future leaders.
  • Run the product as a continuous development process — manage the product through an ongoing, roadmap-driven build-and-release cycle, not as one-off projects.
  • Drive execution rigour — instil disciplined engineering and delivery practices, metrics, and standards so quality and predictability are built into how the team works.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primarily responsible for managing product releases to deliver within time, scope, budget and adherence to process & quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, in-depth analysis, review and design of the software—including technical review and analysis of in-house developed code and review of technologies provided by 3rd party vendors—while guiding the team rather than coding personally.
  • Organize sprint planning meetings, obtain estimates from Scrum Masters, and work with product managers to prioritize sprint tasks.
  • Develop and manage end-to-end project/release plans and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Product Owner support—support the Product Owner in grooming the backlog, managing scope, and setting customer expectations for deliverables.
  • Own software engineering processes, QA, practices, standards, templates, tools and operations to ensure reproducible development and high quality, while keeping costs under control.
  • Track resource utilization across the development & QA teams and ensure effective and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in line with organizational policy—interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Guide the team on complex business logic, testing and deployment—leading through design guidance and review rather than individual coding.
  • Build, develop and retain a high-performing R&D organization, growing leaders and depth within the team.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience leading technical teams of 10 or more to deliver products to customers on the cloud, first time right.
  • Track record of predictable, high-quality delivery at scale, with the execution discipline and metrics to back it.
  • Strong people-management experience—hiring, mentoring, performance management and building teams.
  • Strong technical depth to guide architecture and design decisions; hands-on coding is not required in this role.
  • 15+ years of total experience, including significant time in delivery and people leadership.
  • Experience in Java Microservices, Angular, MySQL 8+, Cloud operations and REST Web Services technologies.
  • Experience with GitLab and CI & CD tools like Runner/Jenkins.
  • Experience with Docker's environment, K8’s Linux OS (Ubuntu).
  • Experience managing multiple Scrum teams & the QA team.
