Role Summary The Mechanical Testing Engineer will be responsible for planning and conducting mechanical tests, analysing data, and preparing clear technical reports under the guidance of the lab head / technical lead. This is a core technical, lab-focused role ideal for someone who enjoys being on the test floor, working with equipment, and diving into data to understand how and why materials/components behave the way they do. Key Responsibilities Mechanical Testing & Experiments Conduct mechanical tests (e.g. tension, compression, bending, shear, hardness, impact, etc.) as per relevant standards and internal procedures Assist in setting up test rigs, fixtures, sensors and data acquisition systems Prepare test specimens, ensure correct mounting/alignment, and run trials as required Support development and refinement of test methods and fixtures Data Analysis & Reporting Record, validate and analyse test data with high accuracy Use basic statistical tools and engineering calculations to interpret results Prepare clear, concise test reports with data, graphs and technical conclusions Maintain proper documentation and traceability for all tests performed Equipment & Lab Practices Operate and perform basic troubleshooting on mechanical testing equipment (e.g. UTM, impact testers, hardness testers, etc.) Follow preventive maintenance and calibration schedules as guided by the lab head / QA team Adhere to lab SOPs, work instructions and quality system requirements Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area Quality, Standards & Safety Execute tests in line with applicable Indian and global standards (as trained) Follow quality procedures for sample identification, data recording and reporting Escalate any deviations, abnormalities or equipment issues to the supervisor Comply with all safety guidelines and use appropriate PPE Eligibility & Qualifications Education: B.Sc. / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering / Mechanics / Physics with 2-3 years of relevant lab testing / analysis experience OR M.Sc. / M.E. / M.Tech in Mechanical / Mechanics / Physics or related field with 1-2 years of relevant experience Technical Experience (Preferred) Hands-on experience in at least some of the following: Tensile, compression, bend, shear, hardness, impact or fatigue testing Working with UTM and basic mechanical test fixtures Data acquisition systems and sensors (load cells, extensometers, strain gauges, etc.) Familiarity with mechanical/materials testing standards (IS, EN, UL or similar) Comfort with engineering calculations and data handling in Excel (or equivalent) Key Skills & Competencies Strong fundamentals in mechanics/materials High attention to detail and data accuracy Good documentation and report-writing skills Problem-solving attitude and willingness to learn new test methods Ability to follow procedures and work systematically Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based lab environment Professional, dependable and collaborative
