Job Description – Electrical Engineer (Roles & Responsibilities)

1. Roles & Responsibilities (R&R)A. Electrical Maintenance

• Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of all electrical equipment and machinery.
• Ensure uninterrupted power supply to production machines and utilities.
• Attend electrical breakdowns and complete troubleshooting within minimum time.
• Maintain electrical panels, motors, transformers, compressors and other electrical equipment.
• Monitor machine electrical performance and identify potential failures.
• Maintain electrical maintenance history and breakdown records.

B. Machine & Equipment Maintenance

• Handle electrical maintenance of hydraulic presses, mechanical presses and other production machines.
• Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, sensors, relays, contactors and control circuits.
• Maintain servo motors, VFDs, control panels and electrical drives.
• Support machine installation, commissioning and electrical modifications.
• Coordinate with machine suppliers for technical support and breakdown rectification.
• Ensure proper functioning of safety interlocks, emergency stops and machine protection systems.

C. PLC & Automation

• Basic to good knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting.
• Identify and rectify PLC input/output and communication-related issues.
• Understand electrical control circuit drawings and ladder logic.
• Handle VFD parameter settings and servo drive troubleshooting.
• Support automation projects and machine improvement activities.
• Coordinate with automation vendors for programming and commissioning.

D. Utility & Power Management

• Monitor electrical power consumption and identify energy-saving opportunities.
• Maintain DG sets, compressors, cooling systems and other electrical utilities.
• Monitor transformer, LT panels and distribution systems.
• Ensure proper functioning of electrical distribution networks.
• Monitor power factor and take corrective action to maintain the required level.
• Maintain electrical load records and energy consumption reports.

E. Safety & Statutory Compliance

• Ensure electrical safety procedures are followed throughout the factory.
• Conduct regular inspection of electrical panels, cables and earthing systems.
• Ensure proper earthing and electrical protection systems.
• Implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
• Ensure electrical installations comply with applicable statutory requirements.
• Maintain electrical safety inspection records.

F. Spare Parts & Inventory Management

• Maintain electrical spare parts inventory.
• Identify critical electrical spares for production machinery.
• Prepare purchase requests for electrical components.
• Coordinate with suppliers for procurement and replacement of spares.
• Monitor spare consumption and control maintenance costs.

G. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
• Prepare daily electrical breakdown reports.
• Maintain machine electrical history records.
• Update electrical drawings and panel modification records.
• Prepare monthly electricity consumption reports.
• Submit maintenance performance reports to the Maintenance Manager.
