Databricks Genie Engineer – Finance (AI/BI Data Engineer)

Platform enablement and setup

• Enable and configure AI/BI Genie and the Genie agent capability in the Databricks workspace, working with platform admins on workspace and account settings.
• Provision and size SQL warehouses (Pro or Serverless) that back Genie spaces, balancing performance and cost.
• Set up Genie spaces per Finance domain (e.g. FP&A, Controllership, Treasury, Procurement), with clear ownership and naming standards.

Data modelling and preparation

• Work with data engineers to curate Genie-ready gold-layer tables and views in Unity Catalog, built on the medallion architecture.
• Design clean, well-named, denormalised finance models (star schemas, conformed dimensions for entity, account, cost centre, period and currency).
• Write clear table and column descriptions, synonyms and business definitions in Unity Catalog so Genie interprets finance terms correctly.
• Define metric views or semantic definitions for key KPIs such as revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, OPEX, DSO, DPO and budget variance.

Genie space configuration and tuning

• Author general instructions that encode finance business rules: fiscal calendar, sign conventions, currency conversion, intercompany eliminations and account hierarchies.
• Build trusted assets: example SQL queries, parameterised queries and Unity Catalog SQL functions for high-value, recurring questions.
• Define join relationships, value dictionaries and sample questions to guide users.
• Create and maintain benchmark question sets, run evaluations and improve accuracy iteratively.
• Review user feedback and query history to find failure patterns and fix them.

Genie agent enablement

• Configure and test the Genie agent for multi-step analytical questions (e.g. variance drivers, trend breakdowns).
• Integrate Genie with downstream channels where required, using the Genie Conversation API, Microsoft Teams, Slack or custom apps, and with Mosaic AI / Agent Bricks multi-agent setups if in scope.

Security, governance and compliance

• Apply Unity Catalog permissions, row-level filters and column masks so users only see data they are entitled to (e.g. by entity, region or cost centre).
• Ensure handling of sensitive data (payroll, vendor banking, PII) meets internal policy and regulatory requirements such as SOX controls.
• Set up auditing and monitoring of Genie usage through system tables and audit logs.

Adoption and support

• Run workshops with Finance users to gather questions, validate answers and agree definitions.
• Produce user guides, prompting tips and admin runbooks.
• Track adoption, accuracy and cost metrics and report them to stakeholders.
