Job Description – Creative Video Director

Location: Kirti Nagar, New Delhi | Employment Type: Full-Time

About TransCurators

TransCurators is a content solutions company delivering Content, Editorial, Localization, Translation, Publishing, Digital Content, E-learning, Creative Services, and Video Production solutions to global enterprises, startups, and EdTech organizations. Through TC Visuals, we create visual content for corporate communication, digital marketing, social media, learning solutions, and advertising.

As our creative services continue to grow, we are looking for a Creative Video Director who can interpret client requirements, uncover the core message, and translate it into a clear, compelling visual concept. This role will help solve one of the most important challenges in video production: turning subjective feedback and broad briefs into a shared creative direction, measurable decisions, and videos that meet the client's real objective.

Role Overview

The Creative Video Director will own the creative direction of assigned video projects from interpreting the brief and developing the central idea to defining the narrative, visual approach, directing the shoot, and guiding post-production through final approval. The person must combine strategic thinking, storytelling, visual judgment, directing skills, and client-facing communication.

The role is not limited to coordinating production logistics or operating a camera. It requires someone who can make sense of what the client is trying to achieve, recommend the right creative approach, explain why it works, and guide the team to execute it consistently. They will establish a clear creative rationale and approval framework early, reducing avoidable rework caused by vague briefs, conflicting opinions, and subjective feedback.

Key Responsibilities1. Client Brief Interpretation & Problem Definition

· Understand the client's business objective, audience, product or service, key message, intended audience response, distribution platform, and success criteria.

· Ask focused discovery questions to distinguish the client's stated request from the underlying communication problem that the video must solve.

· Identify missing information, conflicting expectations, assumptions, and creative risks before concept development begins.

· Translate briefs into a concise creative brief covering objective, audience, key message, tone, mandatory elements, deliverables, constraints, and measures of success.

· Align with Account Management and relevant stakeholders on scope, approval owners, timelines, and decision-making responsibilities.

2. Creative Conceptualization & Story Development

· Develop original, audience-relevant concepts that connect the client's business need to a compelling visual story.

· Recommend the most appropriate creative treatment, narrative structure, tone, pacing, format, and storytelling approach for each project.

· Create and present concept notes, creative treatments, scripts, storyboards, mood boards, reference videos, visual directions, and pitch presentations as required.

· Explain the rationale behind creative choices, including how the proposed idea supports the brief, audience, message, and intended outcome.

· Adapt concepts for corporate films, brand videos, advertisements, product explainers, social media content, interviews, testimonials, event videos, e-learning, and training content.

· Avoid generic, template-driven concepts when a more specific and differentiated approach is needed; balance originality with feasibility, brand requirements, budget, and timeline.

3. Managing Subjective Feedback & Creative Alignment

· Establish a shared creative direction before production by documenting the approved concept, tone, visual references, narrative, and key execution choices.

· Help clients and internal stakeholders articulate what is or is not working in specific, actionable terms rather than relying on vague comments such as 'make it more engaging' or 'it doesn't feel right'.

· Translate subjective feedback into concrete creative decisions, clarifying whether the issue relates to the message, story, pacing, visuals, tone, performance, music, or brand alignment.

· Explain creative recommendations with reference to the approved brief and intended audience response, while remaining receptive to valid client preferences and new information.

· Consolidate feedback through the agreed review process, identify conflicting inputs, and work with Account Management to obtain a clear decision from the authorized approver.

· Differentiate between a genuine brief or quality gap and a preference change; document material changes and flag potential impacts on scope, budget, and timelines.

· Seek alignment on concepts and reference material before a shoot or substantial editing effort begins to reduce preventable rework.

4. Direction & Creative Leadership During Production

· Direct the execution of the approved concept during shoots, ensuring performances, scenes, interviews, visuals, and coverage serve the intended story.

· Guide presenters, actors, influencers, subject-matter experts, voice artists, and interview participants on delivery, tone, movement, and performance as appropriate.

· Work closely with the Director of Photography (DOP) or cinematographer on framing, lighting, camera movement, composition, and visual mood.

· Guide production designers, sound teams, camera crew, and other specialists to maintain consistency with the creative treatment.

· Make on-set creative decisions when conditions change, evaluating alternatives against the brief, feasibility, schedule, and approved direction.

· Review key shots and scene coverage for storytelling requirements before moving on, where practical.

· Maintain a collaborative set environment and communicate creative decisions clearly to the production team.

5. Post-Production Direction & Editorial Judgment

· Guide editors in shaping the story, structure, pacing, emotional progression, shot selection, music, sound design, graphics, colour treatment, and transitions.

· Review rough cuts and subsequent versions against the approved creative brief and treatment, providing time-coded, specific, prioritized feedback.

· Distinguish essential corrections from optional preferences and explain the reason and priority behind requested changes.

· Ensure the edit communicates the intended message clearly and maintains audience engagement without compromising accuracy or brand requirements.

· Collaborate with editors, motion graphic designers, sound specialists, and other team members to resolve creative issues.

· Approve internal creative versions before client review, within delegated authority, and ensure agreed feedback is addressed in the final output.

6. Creative Quality & Brand Consistency

· Set and maintain creative standards across assigned projects and deliverables.

· Review narrative clarity, originality, visual consistency, tone, brand alignment, factual accuracy, accessibility requirements, and platform suitability.

· Ensure the creative execution supports the client's communication objective rather than relying on visual polish alone.

· Identify recurring quality gaps and recommend improvements to briefs, references, review practices, and creative workflows.

· Maintain appropriate standards for permissions, releases, licensed music and footage, brand assets, and other production materials in coordination with the relevant teams.

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Delivery

· Work with Account Management to clarify briefs, manage expectations, present concepts, and coordinate client approvals.

· Partner with production/project management to assess feasibility, timelines, crew requirements, locations, budgets, and production risks.

· Collaborate with Video Editors, Motion Graphic Designers, Content Writers, Creative Designers, DOPs, and external specialists.

· Communicate creative priorities, dependencies, and decisions clearly so the team can execute without ambiguity.

· Provide timely creative decisions and feedback to protect project milestones; escalate unresolved conflicts or risks promptly.

· Contribute to pitch discussions and proposals by developing creative approaches, treatments, and reference-led presentations.

8. Creative Process, Templates & Innovation

· Develop reusable formats for creative briefs, concept presentations, scripts, storyboards, visual references, review notes, and creative approval.

· Help establish stage-gate approvals for example, brief sign-off, concept approval, pre-production approval, rough-cut review, and final approval.

· Build practical guidelines for collecting and consolidating feedback and managing changes after creative sign-off.

· Stay informed about storytelling, advertising, cinematography, digital content, and AI-assisted video creation.

· Explore new creative methods and tools where they improve relevance, quality, speed, or cost-effectiveness without compromising the brief.

Cross-Functional Coordination

· Head of Operations / Operations Manager – TC Visuals

· Account Management Team and Project Managers

· Video Editors and Motion Graphic Designers

· Content Writers and Creative Designers

· Director of Photography (DOP), cinematographers, camera crew, and production specialists

· Freelancers, production houses, studios, and external vendors

Operational Authority

· Own the creative interpretation, concept, narrative, and direction for assigned projects.

· Recommend the creative approach and explain its connection to the approved brief and audience needs.

· Provide creative direction to production and post-production teams within the approved concept and scope.

· Request clarification or pause creative progression when essential brief inputs or approvals are missing.

· Recommend alternatives when a proposed approach is not feasible within the approved budget, schedule, or production constraints.

· Escalate unresolved creative conflicts, scope changes, client concerns, and risks to the reporting manager or Account Management.

· Commercial commitments, changes to contractual scope, and unbudgeted expenditure remain subject to the company's approval process.
