Role & responsibilities
1. Commissioning Planning & Execution
- Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and methodologies.
- Lead and coordinate end-to-end commissioning activities for water and wastewater treatment plants.
- Review approved P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment datasheets, electrical drawings, instrumentation drawings, and control philosophies.
- Prepare commissioning checklists, system-wise commissioning protocols, and start-up procedures.
- Coordinate with project, installation, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation teams to ensure commissioning readiness.
- Verify mechanical completion and system readiness before initiating commissioning activities.
- Ensure proper completion of pre-commissioning activities, including flushing, hydrotesting, leak testing, alignment checks, electrical testing, and instrument calibration.
- Plan and mobilize the required commissioning resources, tools, instruments, and consumables
2. Pre-Commissioning & Start-Up
- Lead pre-commissioning inspections and verification of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- Verify the installation and operational readiness of pumps, blowers, agitators, clarifiers, filters, membranes, dosing systems, and other process equipment.
- Conduct equipment-wise and system-wise functional checks.
- Verify motor rotation, equipment alignment, vibration, pressure, flow, and operational parameters.
- Ensure calibration and loop checking of field instruments, including flow meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, pH, ORP, DO, and other process instruments.
- Coordinate PLC, SCADA, MCC, and control system functional testing.
- Conduct dry runs, wet runs, and integrated system trials.
- Lead initial water filling, chemical preparation, biological seeding, and process stabilization activities wherever applicable.
- Identify and resolve commissioning-related technical issues and operational challenges.
3. Process Commissioning & Optimization
- Lead process commissioning and stabilization of ETP, STP, WWTP, WTP, DM, RO, UF, and other water treatment systems.
- Monitor and optimize process parameters to achieve the required treatment efficiency and output water quality.
- Ensure proper functioning of biological treatment systems, including MBBR, MBR, SBR, ASP, and UASB processes.
- Optimize chemical dosing, aeration, filtration, membrane operation, backwashing, and regeneration cycles.
- Monitor key process parameters such as pH, TSS, COD, BOD, DO, MLSS, turbidity, conductivity, TDS, and recovery.
- Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with process design and engineering teams to resolve design-related and operational issues.
- Ensure treated water quality complies with contractual requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
4. Performance Testing & PGTR
- Plan, coordinate, and execute Performance Guarantee Test Runs (PGTR) as per contractual requirements.
- Ensure all plant systems are operating under stable and defined operating conditions before performance testing.
- Monitor and validate plant capacity, treatment efficiency, water quality, chemical consumption, power consumption, and other guaranteed parameters.
- Collect, verify, and analyze process and performance data.
- Identify performance gaps and implement necessary optimization measures.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders during performance testing.
- Prepare performance test reports and obtain client acceptance against contractual guarantees.
5. Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with company EHS policies and site safety procedures during commissioning.
- Conduct commissioning-specific risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable pollution control board norms and environmental regulations.
- Verify the availability and proper use of PPE, safety equipment, and emergency response systems.
- Ensure quality control throughout commissioning and maintain proper inspection and testing records.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals during commissioning and start-up activities.
6. Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary commissioning interface with clients, consultants, OEMs, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Coordinate with installation teams to ensure timely closure of commissioning prerequisites and punch points.
- Lead technical discussions and resolve commissioning-related issues.
- Coordinate with OEMs for equipment start-up, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
- Conduct regular commissioning review meetings and provide progress updates to management.
- Monitor commissioning schedules and proactively address delays and resource constraints.
7. Documentation & Project Handover
- Prepare and review pre-commissioning and commissioning reports.
- Develop and maintain commissioning checklists, equipment test records, instrument calibration reports, and functional test reports.
- Prepare and validate operating procedures, start-up procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain daily commissioning progress reports and issue tracking records.
- Ensure closure of all commissioning-related punch points.
- Prepare final commissioning and PGTR reports.
- Coordinate customer training on plant operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure proper documentation and successful handover of the commissioned plant to the customer and operations team.
