Job Description for a Shelter Veterinary Doctor role, including clinical, administrative, and management responsibilities: Job Title: Shelter Veterinary Doctor Location: Koshindra, Gujarat Reporting To: NGO Director / Founder/ Chief functionary Employment Type: Full-Time Job Overview: We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Shelter Veterinary Doctor to oversee the overall health, treatment, and welfare of animals in our shelter. This role requires not only strong clinical and surgical expertise but also administrative and leadership skills to manage staff, coordinate shelter operations, and ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the facility. Key Responsibilities: 1. Veterinary Care & Animal Welfare: Conduct regular health check-ups, diagnose illnesses, and provide necessary treatment or surgical intervention. Maintain vaccination, deworming, and sterilization schedules for all animals. Ensure proper medical records and treatment history are maintained for each animal. Implement preventive healthcare and hygiene standards across the shelter. Oversee emergency care and critical cases as needed. 2. Shelter Management & Administration: Supervise daily shelter operations, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and efficiency. Maintain stock and inventory of medicines, vaccines, and surgical supplies. Prepare and maintain health reports, case summaries, and medical documentation. Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and veterinary service providers as required. 3. Staff Supervision & Team Management: Supervise, guide, and train shelter staff including attendants, cleaners, and caretakers. Allocate duties, monitor performance, and ensure adherence to shelter policies. Foster a team-oriented, compassionate, and responsible work environment. 4. Administrative & Reporting Duties: Manage shelter records, attendance, and reporting to management. Assist in planning budgets for medical and operational needs. Support awareness programs, vaccination drives, and community outreach initiatives. Ensure compliance with animal welfare laws and shelter regulations. Qualifications & Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc / M.V.Sc) from a recognized institution. Valid registration/license to practice veterinary medicine. Fresher / Minimum 1 years of experience in clinical or shelter practice preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to handle animals with compassion and patience.
