Operate manual and CNC lathes to machine components to drawings and tolerances. Set up tools, fixtures, and materials on machines. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders. Perform turning, facing, threading, drilling, boring, and taper operations. Inspect finished parts using micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges, and other precision tools. Maintain machines, tools, and equipment in good working condition. Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and quality.
A Transfer Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining transfer presses used in manufacturing processes—commonly in metal stamping, automotive parts production, and high-volume fabrication. The operator ensures efficient machine performance, product quality, and adherence to safety standards. Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation Set up transfer presses according to job specifications, including tooling, dies, feeds, and automation settings. Operate transfer press equipment to produce parts within required tolerances. Adjust speeds, feeds, lubrication, and transfer mechanisms to optimize production. Quality Control Inspect finished parts using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools. Monitor production for defects, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality. Document inspections and maintain quality records as required. Maintenance & Troubleshooting Perform routine preventative maintenance on presses, dies, and related equipment. Identify and correct mechanical issues such as misfeeds, jams, or sensor malfunctions. Report major mechanical issues to maintenance or supervisors. Safety & Compliance Follow all safety procedures related to machine operation, lockout/tagout, and personal protective equipment. Ensure guarding and safety devices are functioning properly. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Production Support Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production schedules. Work with supervisors, engineers, and setup personnel to optimize workflow. Record production data, including part counts, downtime, and scrap. Skills & Qualifications Experience operating transfer presses, metal stamping machines, or similar industrial equipment. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Understanding of manufacturing quality standards (e.g., ISO/TS standards). Familiarity with CNC or automated press systems (preferred). Basic math and measurement skills. Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand for long periods. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. 1–3 years of experience in press operation or manufacturing environment preferred. Technical or vocational training in machine operation or industrial technology is a plus. Working Conditions Manufacturing or production floor environment. Exposure to noise, vibration, lubricants, and metalworking equipment. Use of personal protective equipment required (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc.).
