Role & responsibilities Key Responsibilities Preoperative Assessment Evaluate patient medical history, allergies, and current health status. Order and review diagnostic tests to assess anesthesia risks. Discuss anesthesia options, risks, and procedures with patients and families. Anesthesia Administration Select appropriate anesthesia type (general, regional, local, or sedation) based on patient needs and surgical requirements. Administer anesthetic agents using safe, evidence-based techniques. Adjust anesthesia levels during the procedure to ensure patient stability. Intraoperative Monitoring Monitor vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc.) continuously. Respond promptly to any adverse reactions or complications. Maintain clear communication with the surgical team. Postoperative Care Oversee patient recovery from anesthesia in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). Manage pain control and prevent postoperative nausea or complications. Provide detailed postoperative instructions to patients and families. Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate medical records, including anesthesia charts and patient notes. Adhere to hospital policies, legal requirements, and safety protocols. Stay updated with advances in anesthesia techniques, equipment, and medications. Qualifications & Requirements Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Specialization: Completed residency in anesthesiology; fellowship in a subspecialty preferred (e.g., cardiac, pediatric, pain management). Licensure: Valid state medical license and board certification in anesthesiology. Experience: Minimum 25 years of relevant clinical experience preferred. Skills: Strong knowledge of pharmacology and anesthesia equipment. Excellent decision-making and crisis management skills. Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments. Strong communication and patient care abilities. Work Environment Hospitals, surgical centers, outpatient clinics. May require irregular hours, on-call shifts, and weekend/holiday work depending on surgery schedules. Preferred candidate profile
