Sr. Design and Costing Engineer – Solar Industry
Primary Responsibilities: We are looking for a technically sound and commercially aware Design & Costing Engineer to join our solar EPC team. This role combines solar system design with cost estimation to ensure optimal, competitive, and accurate project proposals. The candidate will support the sales and execution teams by delivering efficient system designs, detailed BOMs, and precise costing. Required Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, MS Excel, Helioscope Strong technical knowledge of solar PV systems and electrical components Good understanding of costing principles, taxes (GST), duties, and logistics Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills Detail-oriented with accuracy in numbers and design Good communication and coordination abilities Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines Sound knowledge of open access policies Job Description: System Design: Design rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV systems using AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVsyst, or similar tools. Create SLDs, layout drawings, and technical documentation including string sizing, cable routing, and equipment placement. Perform energy generation simulations and performance ratio analysis. Customize designs based on site-specific constraints and project goals. Cost Estimation & BOQ Preparation: Prepare detailed project costing, including material, labor, logistics, and overheads. Generate itemized Bill of Materials (BOM) and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for bidding and execution. Analyze supplier and vendor quotes to ensure cost competitiveness. Work with procurement to track price trends of major components (modules, inverters, cables, structures, etc.). Proposal Support: Assist the business development team in preparing techno-commercial proposals. Provide quick design and costing turnarounds for tender submissions and client queries. Participate in pre-bid meetings and site surveys when needed. Technical Compliance & Optimization: Ensure all designs meet applicable IS/IEC standards, utility regulations, and customer specifications. Continuously evaluate and improve design efficiency to reduce system cost without compromising performance. Research and recommend alternative materials or system configurations to enhance value engineering. Educational Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Mechanical / Renewable Energy Engineering. Work Experience: Minimum of 2–6 years experience in solar EPC design and/or estimation roles.
