The position in discussion is with the Tax Technology (ES) team, consisting of highly skilled resources dedicated to supporting member firms, learning and deploying leading practices and innovative solutions, and helping clients grow.

The team comprises tax professionals, technology specialists, business analysts, project managers, data professionals and other skilled resources with strong technical and tax domain knowledge. The team builds data, engineering and tax solutions for the business and clients, with client engagements leveraging these products and solutions.

Joining the 1065 SALT team within the Tax Technology capability, the Assistant Manager will be responsible for supporting the delivery of U.S. partnership tax compliance and state and local tax engagements, with a focus on Form 1065 and related SALT requirements. The role will involve reviewing work, managing deliverables, coaching team members, coordinating with stakeholders, and helping drive quality and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Manage and review U.S. partnership tax compliance engagements, including Form 1065 and applicable state and local tax filings, schedules and supporting workpapers.
• Review tax returns, tax calculations, workpapers and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable requirements.
• Analyze partnership tax matters and SALT issues, including state apportionment, nexus, filing requirements, withholding and related state tax considerations.
• Plan and monitor engagement deliverables to meet quality standards, budgets and agreed timelines.
• Coordinate with onshore teams, clients and internal stakeholders to obtain information, resolve issues and communicate engagement status.
• Identify technical and process issues, research solutions and escalate complex matters appropriately.
• Provide guidance, coaching and day-to-day support to associates and senior associates, including review feedback and knowledge sharing.
• Support process standardization, automation and continuous improvement initiatives across 1065 SALT engagements.
• Maintain comprehensive engagement documentation and ensure work complies with organizational quality, risk and confidentiality standards.
• Participate in training, knowledge-sharing sessions and development of technical resources for the team.
• Assist managers and senior leadership with engagement planning, performance tracking and other operational activities as required.

• Graduate/post-graduate qualification such as B.Com, M.Com, MBA, CA, CPA or equivalent.
• Relevant experience of 5+ years in U.S. tax, with significant experience in partnership tax compliance and/or state and local tax.
• Hands-on experience with U.S. partnership tax compliance, including Form 1065 and related schedules.
• Strong understanding of U.S. state and local tax concepts and filing requirements relevant to partnerships.
• Experience reviewing tax returns, workpapers and tax calculations and identifying technical or quality issues.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in a deadline-driven, client-service and team-oriented environment.
• Experience leading, reviewing and mentoring junior team members.
• Proactive approach to identifying requirements, learning new tax developments and improving processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and tax compliance/workflow tools used in U.S. tax engagements.

• CPA or EA qualification, or progress toward a relevant U.S. tax credential.
• Experience with SALT technology, tax provision, tax research or tax workflow platforms.
• Exposure to multi-state partnership tax compliance, state apportionment and composite/withholding tax requirements.
• Experience with process automation, data analytics or reporting tools used in tax operations.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills and experience working with global/onshore teams.
