The Group is exploring opportunities to use industrial connectivity, data analytics, artificial intelligence and intelligent automation to improve operational efficiency, equipment reliability, safety and business decision-making.
Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Industrial IoT & AI Solutions Engineer to implement practical technology solutions for industrial and business operations.
The role will involve connecting operational data sources, developing analytics and AI applications, integrating systems with enterprise platforms, and supporting solutions through testing, deployment and ongoing monitoring.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience in software development, IoT integration, data engineering or applied AI, along with the ability to work with business users and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Industrial IoT and Data Integration
- Implement connectivity between industrial equipment, sensors, IoT gateways and business applications.
- Work with operational data from manufacturing facilities, fuel operations, fleets, generators and other industrial assets.
- Support data collection, real-time monitoring, dashboards, alerts and reporting.
- Work with relevant protocols and technologies such as MQTT, Modbus and OPC UA, depending on project requirements.
2. Applied AI and Machine Learning
- Develop and deploy practical AI/ML applications for predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, fuel consumption analysis, demand forecasting and operational optimisation.
- Prepare, clean and analyse data for model development and evaluation.
- Integrate models into applications and operational workflows.
- Monitor model performance, data quality and reliability after deployment.
3. Generative AI and Intelligent Automation
- Develop applications using large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), document processing and enterprise knowledge search.
- Build AI-assisted workflows that connect with approved enterprise systems through APIs and tools.
- Implement suitable access controls, human approval steps, logging and exception handling.
- Evaluate the reliability and usefulness of AI outputs before production deployment.
4. Enterprise Application Integration
- Integrate IoT platforms, AI applications and data pipelines with ERPNext, SAP, fleet systems and other enterprise applications where required.
- Develop and maintain REST APIs, data connectors and scheduled or event-driven workflows.
- Support data validation, error handling, testing and technical documentation.
5. Deployment, Security and Support
- Take selected solutions from requirements gathering and proof of concept through testing, deployment and operational handover.
- Apply secure development practices, access control, data privacy and appropriate IT/OT separation.
- Monitor device connectivity, application availability, data pipelines, model performance and operating costs.
- Work with internal teams, operational stakeholders and external technology partners to resolve implementation issues.
6. Project Delivery and Business Impact
- Understand operational problems and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Support project planning, effort estimation, testing, training and documentation.
- Track agreed outcomes such as reduced downtime, lower fuel losses, reduced manual work and improved operational visibility.
- Recommend improvements and help scale successful implementations to other Group locations.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Data Science or a related discipline.
- Approximately 4–6 years of relevant experience in software development, IoT, industrial data integration, data engineering or applied AI.
- Strong hands-on programming experience in Python.
- Working knowledge of SQL, REST APIs, Git and Linux.
- Experience building and integrating data pipelines, dashboards or operational applications.
- Practical exposure to at least one production or operational deployment involving IoT, data analytics, machine learning or AI applications.
- Understanding of system integration, testing, monitoring, troubleshooting and technical documentation.
- Ability to work with business stakeholders, operational teams and technology vendors.
- Understanding of application security, access controls and responsible handling of business data.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with industrial IoT, IoT gateways, MQTT, Modbus, OPC UA, PLC or SCADA integrations.
- Experience with time-series data, equipment monitoring, predictive maintenance or anomaly detection.
- Exposure to scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow or comparable ML frameworks.
- Practical experience building LLM applications, RAG solutions, vector search or tool-calling workflows.
- Exposure to AI agent orchestration, model evaluation and production monitoring.
- Experience integrating with ERPNext, SAP, fleet management or other enterprise applications.
- Exposure to computer vision, video analytics or document intelligence.
- Experience in oil and gas, energy, manufacturing, logistics, automotive, agriculture or other asset-intensive industries.
- Experience coordinating projects, external vendors, technical documentation and user training.

Location and Travel
The position is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with travel to Group locations as required.
The successful candidate will work with ICT, Digital Transformation, business departments, operational teams and technology partners.
Compensation
Monthly salary budget: Up to USD 1,800.
