Foundry Welding Operations (Stainless Steel Castings)

Role & responsibilities

• Review and interpret NDT reports (RT, UT, PT, MT) and define appropriate repair methodology.
• Supervise and control stainless steel casting repair welding activities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes including American Society of Mechanical Engineers Section IX and American Welding Society D1.6.
• Develop, qualify, and maintain WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Control welding parameters such as heat input, interphases temperature, and consumable selection.
• Approve excavation areas and ensure proper weld preparation before repair.
• Coordinate re-NDT and ensure final acceptance as per customer specifications.
• Monitor metallurgical integrity including ferrite control, hardness limits, and sensitization prevention.
• Ensure compliance with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirements for sour service applications.
• Conduct root cause analysis for recurring welding defects and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain full traceability and documentation for customer audits and third-party inspections.
• Interface with QA, production, NDT teams, and customers for technical clarifications.
• Support and handle customer audits (Oil & Gas / Defence / Nuclear sectors).
• Ensure adherence to welding safety standards and ISO quality systems.
• Drive continuous improvement in repair quality and reduction of rework/rejection rates.

Preferred candidate profile

• Strong Knowledge of Austenitic, Martensitic, Duplex & Super Duplex stainless steels,CI.
• Heat input control & distortion management
• Corrosion mechanisms and Ferrite control in weld metal
• Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Knowledge, Welding Processes & Techniques
• Fluent with relevant codes, for repair acceptance criteria and qualification of procedures
• Strong knowledge of SAP.
