Instrument Preparation : Inspecting, cleaning, and decontaminating medical instruments, devices, and equipment after they have been used in patient procedures. Sterilization : Operating sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ensuring that instruments are properly sterilized according to established protocols. Inventory Management : Maintaining an accurate inventory of sterilized instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure availability for medical procedures. Assembling Kits : Assembling procedure-specific instrument kits or trays that contain all necessary instruments and supplies for specific medical procedures. Quality Control : Conducting quality checks to verify that instruments are correctly cleaned, sterilized, and assembled, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Equipment Maintenance : Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting on sterilization equipment to ensure proper functioning. Documentation : Keeping accurate records of instrument sterilization, maintenance activities, and inventory levels. Safety and Infection Control : Following strict infection control protocols and safety procedures to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a safe working environment. Collaboration : Working closely with nurses, surgeons, and other medical staff to ensure that sterile instruments are available when needed for procedures. Requirements : Education : A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some positions may require additional vocational training or certification related to sterile processing. Certification : Certification as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is often preferred or required.
